I am in my early 30's and have had acne since I was a teenager on my face. Tried all sorts of different facial cleansers and washes over the years.
Recently changed to cerave anti blemish range and my skin seems worse.

Anyone found anything that helps.
Someone recommended carol complete acne package anyone had success with this?
Also heard of skin and me but I'm TTC and it sounds like it's mainly the retinoid that help which I can't use.
Any advice appreciated!

Oh thanks - I can ask the GP, I currently use Epiduo from the GP so not sure if they’ll do both. Will have a look online

ConBatulations · 15/03/2026 12:27

If you've given the Epiduo a go and it doesn't work for you then they should be willing to give you something else but you may not be able to dictate what it is.

Have you seen your GP and had blood tests and investigations done for deficiencies and things like PCOS? The acne might have a hormonal cause which can also effect TTC.

Well it helps to some extent, I use it alongside Dianette which likewise helps to some extent - I’m never fully clear though.

Right can someone talk me through how to get this Skinoren stuff please?
🙏

I got mine online from chemist4U. They ask you to upload a picture of the acne so they can assess and approve it. Mine took about 4 hours to go through and arrived the next day.

minipie · 16/03/2026 17:47

Brilliant thanks. I may try the GP first and if not then I have a back up plan

No skincare on its own worked for me. I have had acne for years - since I was about 21 and I’m 50 now. The only thing that got rid of it completely was Tretinoin. Obviously that’s out of the question until after you have a baby.

The other thing I would say - and I don’t mean to sound like an arse - is that people can make all sorts of recommendations but in my (very expensive and time consuming) experience, the only way you can find out what is suitable for you is trial and error. Obviously recommendations are a good place to start but everyone’s skin is so different, so just keep that in mind.

If I had a refund for everything I’d tried that didn’t work, I’d be rich!!😂

Also LED light therapy is great for acne if you can afford some salon treatments or to buy a good mask such as the omnilux.

I second this. I started treatment at a salon then bought the omnilux blue light led mask. It works. I also use skin and me and that has improved the texture of my skin.

With persistent adult acne that's been going on since your teens and you're now TTC which rules out retinoids, the ingredient worth focusing on is azelaic acid since it's one of the few actives considered safe during pregnancy and conception, tackles both active breakouts and the post acne marks at the same time, and is gentle enough that it won't strip your barrier the way some acne focused cleansers tend to do.

Can I ask how will I know if my skin barrier has been stripped away making acne worse as read this elsewhere and not really sure if I've maybe done that using previous products?

Thank you everyone! To those who recommended la Roche effacer I purchased the pack with cleanser, toner and duo m+. Did you use the whole regime? Not sure if all of this will be too harsh on my skin?
Should I still use a separate moisturizer? Thanks again!

This has been a helpful read.
OP, my acne cleared up when I was pregnant and post partum. Unfortunately it then came back once baby was about 6mo. But it was nice whilst it lasted! I hope you have the same.

What specific La Roche Posay products are people recommending for rosacea and spots? And with the azelaic acid, is it best a serum kind of thing?

Pooky001 · 23/03/2026 07:34

with LRP I use the face wash for oily skin morning and evening and personally only use the Effaclar duo on spots or on problems areas like my chin. The zinc spray is good as well for reducing shine.

Skinoren (azalaeic acid) is a cream in a tube and I rub a thin layer into my chin and forehead every night before bed.

For a product only three months past its date that's been stored properly the main concern is whether the preservative system is still doing its job, so if it smells normal, looks unchanged, and hasn't separated or gone grainy it is probably still fine to use, but given that you have flaky irritated skin around your forehead and eyebrows which can indicate a compromised barrier it might actually be worth picking up a fresh tube just to avoid any risk of applying something with degraded preservation to already sensitive skin.

47 skin has been a game changer for me, I’m mid 30’s and had acne since teens. Nothing has ever even slightly worked until I started 47 skin at the start of the year. Expensive but so worth it. I have had the odd new spot since starting but nothing like I used to. It’s gradually clearing up all the red marks left behind too, I really recommend it.

I’ve been using 47 skin (the main product, a serum) since this thread and it smells lovely but has done bugger all for my acne.

Thanks I've tried la Roche effacer cleanser and duo m and I'm now breaking out more than ever over the last 6-8 weeks! So looking for what to try next. Going to give skinorin a go!
