Alternative to Botox for frown line

Frankie789 · 26/02/2026 05:57

Im mid 30s and have a semi permanent frown line from squinting / concentrating. I don’t think I want to Botox yet but what can help ease it before it becomes really deep?

anyone else had the same and reduced the appearance?

Similar age Botox was the only thing that worked for me. I do it every 6 months ish just the bit between my brows. I was using some stuff from the ordinary they do a quiz and then recommend and it improved the texture of my skin but wouldn’t say it made significant difference to frown lines. Potentially could try retinols

Have a look at frownies. You wear them overnight. I’ve had Botox in the past but didn’t want to continue and found these instead.
Theyre not as effective but go some way to help.

Im 42 and have botox (I started at 40), but as another poster has suggested, Frownies / Smoothies work really well.

I started having botox on my forehead, frown lines and eyes, then moved just to forehead and frown lines, and now am only getting it in my frown lines as I've not got on that well with it overall. I would definitely recommend it for frown lines above anything else though.

I’ve used them and it smooths out overnight but as soon as you use your face it’s back! I’m 54 now and I’m learning to accept it as I don’t want the shiny forehead that Botox gives. I have a fringe- frotox!

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 26/02/2026 06:43

Yhe only non botox based solve i can think of is a fringe

I have the same problem. Unfortunately I didn’t like the lowered brow look that Botox gave me. It made me look so harsh. I loved the frown free effect though!

Frownies are great for all the time that you wear them, but my frown line soon comes back after I take the strip off!

Has anyone ever had their 11 line filled? I’ve seen that this is an option but I’m scared by fillers and the possibility of the stuff migrating around your face.

I just accept I'm growing older and have the frown lines. It's a privilege to grow old not everyone gets to.

foodtoorder · 26/02/2026 07:03

Honestly nothing, if you want it gone toxin is the only way.

....and, it wont get rid of frown lines that have already formed, but I wear sunglasses in even the slightest bit of bright weather (I've got sensitive eyes anyway), and sunglasses and a baseball cap on long walks.

Thanks all, I’ll have a look at frownies for overnight as I wake up with a super deep line until it smooths out so they sound like they could help somewhat.

@OneWorthyLemonCat sunglasses! That’s a really good shout as I constantly frown with the light but I wear glasses so will look at sunglasses too for the car etc.

Im not against Botox just want to try other things first for now.

Not sure I’ll suit a fringe again but will see

Sunglasses are a good shout, as is an eye test if you haven’t had one for a while as if your prescription has changed you might be frowning if you squint. If it’s worst first thing you could also try a silk pillowcase.

Obviously having Botox is a deeply personal choice but if you anticipate having it eventually then, honestly, you might as well have it now and reap some preventative benefits. Anything else that you do short of Botox is going to be temporary and superficial. You might as well consider a very small amount of Botox now, which will stop the wrinkle forming any more deeply and will mean you will need fewer units and can preserve more natural movement when you are in your forties and beyond. You can still do the Frownies etc if you want, although you’ll get the best long-term benefits to the appearance of the skin if you introduce a good exfoliant and potentially begin a low dose of tret.

And whatever you decide, SPF every day, all year round!

You need to start using a very good peptides serum and do this daily for the rest of your life. Ignore the price otherwise you’ll never start.
I would recommend No7 Laboratories Line Correcting Serum. It is usually on offer at Boots and you only need to use a tiny bit each time. Don’t neglect other areas where you might get expression lines in the future such above your eyebrows.

This product smoothed out the same line you have for me.

I also use Medik8 Advanced Liquid Peptides and that smoothed out expression lines I had above my eyebrows.

I don’t know why they work on different areas like that. These also have a degree of preventative effect so I am using both everyday until they stop selling them or I find a better serum in the future.

At your age it might also be prudent to start using tretinoin. You won’t see any immediate dramatic changes but it does absolutely prevent fine lines and also keeps skin smooth texture wise.

Check if you need glasses. Like pp said frownies or similar. Sleep mask if your bedroom is light. That Nivea Q10 wrinkle filler is quite good.
