Please help me with false lashes

catshatsandchats · 18/02/2026 14:22

At the grand old age of 60 I've never applied false eyelashes! I want to start wearing them, but bought some little clusters and quick setting glue from Superdrug and couldn't get them in place at all! I suspect I'd do better with strips, but don't know which glue would be best.

Ideally I want something fairly natural looking and easy to apply! Can anyone recommend a brand?

I thought about booking in to have them done, but can't afford the upkeep!

I’m intrigued by this. I have had very subtle lashes for an event added by beautician but doubt my ability to do myself as I’m pretty handless.

The ‘ under your own lashes’ ones - where does the glue go? I don’t even put eyeliner on inner rim as optician says is so bad to risk blocking. Does glue fit on outside edge eyelid ok? What is most hypoallergenic glue?

And what about mascara on own lashes and removing makeup at night? Doesn’t that remove the false lashes?

You have to use a two-stage 'bond and seal' glue to your lashes with the double-ended brush that comes with the kit.
It's less faffy than it sounds.

The glue bonds with the base of your own lashes so not on your inner lid.

You have to be careful with cleansing if you intend to keep the lashes on. I only wear mascara on my lower lashes (no need for it with lashes on the top) but carefully remove eye makeup without dislodging them.

With them being placed underneath the top lashes it's easier to remove eye makeup etc.

Other posters have recommended the pre-glued cluster kits. They're great, albeit more temporary, for seeing if they're suitable.

Once you get the hang of it it's far cheaper to DIY with your own glue. Costs me about £1.50 each week when I've worked it out.

The ones I buy are pre glued and you just place them under your lashes. You get a little clamping tool thing to press them to your lashes. I don’t wear mascara or eye make up but I’m gentle around my eyes when washing my face and they’ve never fallen off. I used to get individual lashes fortnightly but I find these much better. I have different lengths and thicknesses of the Lola’s lashes, more subtle for everyday wear and longer thicker ones for functions/going out with pals.

MarshaMarshaMarsha · 18/02/2026 16:18

I bought the Lola’s pre glued cluster lashes with such high hopes as the videos look so simple but I can’t for the life of me get them on! Any tips greatly appreciated!!

Anndalouzier · 18/02/2026 16:19

I tried to learn how to do them during lockdown but gave up and just went back to my eyelash tech

Anndalouzier · 18/02/2026 16:19

Plus, if you wear glasses, it's impossible

lilythepinkone · 18/02/2026 16:20

I can't see it's going to do your eyes much good if you apply glue under your eyelashes- surely that's onto the bare skin that's right next to your eyes?

HugoThatway · 18/02/2026 14:56

Please don't. Eyelashes are for keeping dust and sweat out of your eyes not for glueing things on.

🙄🙄🙄

I wear glasses and have lashes on 60% of the time, never had a problem

Same! I suppose if you wore the exaggerated ten foot long ones then it might be an issue but with normal length ones it’s no problemo.

Do I have to use the clusters? It seems more complicated than a single strip.

The clusters are in fact loads easier! You don’t have to make sure the whole thing goes on at the same time! They suit everyone because they are customisable to your eye shape. Pre glued clusters are the easiest by a country mile and if you get the right ones they look very natural

PinkNeonSign · 18/02/2026 21:20

It’s interesting to read about the clusters, I didn’t realise you could leave them on, will have to give them a go.

For years I’ve applied ardell demi-wispies daily, I use Superdrug glue which has never failed me. Duo is good too but I’m allergic to something in it.

Ok, I will try my best to explain…! Remove the largest cluster you want to use first, probably a 14 or 12, by hand not with the applicator (otherwise it will stick to the applicator not to your eyelid) . Clamp the applicator on to the furthest lash end of it (not glue end). In mirror, put it under your natural lash at the corner of eye in same direction as your lash. It will stick. Then release the clamp and kind of adjust and press it on with your fingers. Continue like that. It’s actually really easy when you get the hang of it (much easier than strip lashes)

They’re so thin it’s unnoticeable tbh. They aren’t that near your eyes

catshatsandchats · 05/03/2026 23:51

So I've tried preglued cluster lashes, but I'm absolutely hopeless at it! I don't seem to have enough lashes to stick them to. They were ones you stick on top but even underneath, I just can't position them right! I think I give up. At some point I may be able to afford extensions, but at the moment I'll have to make do with my sparse stubby lashes!

Hi have you tried the 3/4 strip lashes? Eyelure does a few styles that are only 3/4 of the length. It means they don’t need to bend so much and stick much better.

glue- for a beginner use the temporary daily one. Not the under eye lashes as I find they don’t stick well and if they come off they are too bear your eyeball to
be safe.
get the Superdrug black coloured glue. Put a blob on the back of your hand. Get the lash and dip the edge of the lash in it. So its coated all along the edge but not too much. Then you wait til it’s tacky. Then apply to the top of the lashes right by your eyelid. Black glue means it just looks like eyeliner.

do the other eye. Then go over/around the line with black eyeliner if you need to even the line up.

they look so lovely and it’s quick once you get the hang of the glue part.

jackstini · 06/03/2026 09:45

If you want to try underlashes without the faff use Ardell Press Ons

They are preglued and really easy to use

Jamfirstest · 06/03/2026 09:49

Dd2 (13!!) does the under lashes by herself with a shein kit. She says you need really good tweezers (asked for tweezer man for Xmas) and a lighted mirror and nail polish remover to get the glue off anything it goes on (not your eyelids I mean like the table etc). She has a product call bond and seal.
they look really amazing - like natural eyelashes that are just longer and thicker.

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 06/03/2026 09:52

Could anyone recommend easy to apply, natural looking lashes please? I’ve never had false
lashes and am not great with makeup so I’d like some that are quick and easy to apply without looking at all obvious.

catshatsandchats · 06/03/2026 23:19

I just don't have enough natural lash to stick false lashes to.
I don't wear eye liner because my eye lids are crepey and it never looks good.
I have Tweezerman tweezers but just couldn't get the lashes positioned right.
I tried preglued, still couldn't manage!
I haven't tried 3/4 length, but doubt I could position those either.

The eyelure website has lots of info on it. It doesn’t come up in a Google search easily but this is the link to 008 3/4 lash. Really nice and don’t feel them on.
