What would you wear? No clothes. Going out for casual drinks.

Lost my style. Stuck in leggings. Going for dinner drinks with old friends and really would like to feel good.

I'm size 8 probably more like a 10 now and have a tummy. Really can't do big heels but don't even known what's in fashion or where to start. What would you wear?

High street outfit needed that can deliver! Any help appreciated or guidance

Hello! What kind of things do you like? What is your usual style and what is your body shape? Last year I got my hair bobbed and started a new skincare routine. I bought new make up and refreshed my technique by watching YouTube videos for a few tips to update. I got inexpensive accessories such as new earrings and bracelets from H&M etc and basically started from the neck up.

Then I started losing weight and started trying on clothes that I never co sidereal before. I always had my 'go to' style and just decided to look at the other stuff in the shops. I looked at what trendy young people were wearing and started buying new pieces every so often to add to it.

If I was you, just starting out, I would play it safe and stick to all black with a stunning coat, a fab hairstyle, strong make up and accessories.

Yep definitely need make up too. Will look into youtube videos great idea. That's one way to make me feel better!
I'm small build big belly size 10ish. Pear shaped i think?! Zero style anymore. Used to look great in short skirts and heels!

Have a look on ASOS new in. That’s where I’ve got my inspiration from lately.

I also got a pair of dark brown with cream stitching western boots there (knee high) and I get compliments on them all the time.

Make up wise a pale pink Bridget Bardot lipstick is in. Dior do one. And also glosses on eyes and lips.

If you think your belly is that bad just get some shapewear.

How long since you last went out? This sounds like a big deal for you but once you get back into it you will realise it doesn't matter what you wear. Meeting upnwiyh friends is because you want to see each other and have fun.

At your size you have everything to choose from. Wear those leggings with a nice top and some jewellery, dress, jeans, skirt, trousers.

All those times I used to worry what I looked like and fretted what to wear turned into realising it really doesn't matter.

I'm more alternative so generally wear doc type boots with most outfits, used to wear heels but what was the point? No one cared.

Developing a mindset of wow I'm so lucky to be meeting friends rather than oh I'm showing a bit of human bulge, plus a glass of wine while getting ready helps me.

When you're out you will see all different sizes and styles and everyone is far more in their own groups.

Go into a city, grab a coffee and sit on a bench in a busy shopping area, and just people watch for 20 mins. See who you think looks well dressed or super cool even if they’re not model sized. You will see plenty of women your age and older wearing trendy stuff, and can suss out some ideas based on your comfort zone.

Wide leg jeans/trousers and striped tops seem to be the thing where I live for a wide range of ages, and the shops are full of them in every colour!

Ha you got me. Yes years it's been! Years of difficulties babies and no reliable babysitters. Trying to find myself again. But that's a great attitude and great advice. Just feel confident in myself is what I want. Glass of wine will help :)

Aw I totally understand and so glad you've found my humble advise useful. Honestly, I remember the days of worrying about what I wore so important but once out you and no one else cares. Even in my teens and 20s and 30s when properly going out out I couldn't tell you what others wore unless particularly unusual/fancy dress, which I thought wow brilliant anyway xxx

Tacohill · 17/02/2026 23:35

I’d wear jeans with a nice top and boots with no/little heel.

Auroragirl · 17/02/2026 23:50

I’d go for low heel boots or trainers. Jeans and a top or shirt lots of shackets around nice coat nice jewellery and natural make up. Like others say look on web sites what suits you, what do you like. I think high heels are out but it really depends where you live . Some cities have big make up and hair and very out out dress sense. Here it’s mainly jeans or wide leg trousers . I’m sporty/ preppy I think I buy from crew joules white stuff h and m m and s

High heels are very much not out. I saw loads of women wearing them with jeans when out recently.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/02/2026 10:38

Don’t wear the leggings!

It really depends on the city and type of venue though.

KeepOnCleaning · 18/02/2026 11:37

I'm fully expecting to be blasted for this, which I will ignore, but I found it really helpful when I recently went through some issues including surgery that changed my view of my body. Take a full inventory of everything decent you own (not the leggings) and put that into chat gpt. Tell it the event you're going to, your strengths and insecurities about your body, and how much you might you be willing to add to your wardrobe. It came up with an amazing curated outfit selection, with suggestions of 2 new items I could buy. It stuck with my usual style and colour palette and put things together that I hadn't considered, without me spending a fortune on a personal stylist. Also, without knowing where you are, heels in London would be a definite no, especially for casual drinks.

KeepOnCleaning · 18/02/2026 11:56

Without doing all that, for casual drinks I would do good jeans - the River Island harmony jeans are nice. Either with clean trainers in a colour or some western style ankle boots if you want to be a bit smarter. A blouse in a bold colour or a good print. Or just a nice top. Maybe a soft biker jacket or relaxed blazer, or a Borg jacket if it's colder, and hoop earrings.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/02/2026 11:58

Heels in London are absolutely not a definite no. I don’t wear heels apart from block heeled ankle boots, but last time I was in London (Michelin star restaurant, theatre, casual bars and restaurants) I saw a real mix of outfits. Everyone on here says that nobody dresses up in London, but it’s not true. As in most things in life, there are many variations.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 18/02/2026 11:58

Actually I know pp say no leggings but I’ve got some Zara diamanté stripe leggings which I wear with a cami top and jacket. For casual drinks dinner.
