I have never ever not cared for my hair as I used to have lovely hair but being bed bound with depression has left me iwth insanely bad knots and mats and im worried I will have to get my hair cut really short which I have never had and would hate to have to do.

has anybody been able to get severe mats out?

Child's farm detangling spray is really good.

Also a hair mask which you can put on and left on Garnier hair food is good.

Both can be bought from amazon and are not overly expensive.

A tangle teaser brush as well.

I get really bad matted hair. I also suffer from depression and when it’s gets out of hand I also use the child’s farm detangle spray plus oil. L’Oréal extraordinary hair oil. Leave it in for about twenty minutes then go through in sections with fingers, tangle teezer and a wide toothed detangle comb. Wash afterwards. I find having multiple different things to hand helps.
Don’t be too rash/ impatient. Just get your hair super slippery and even sit in front of the tv or something as you work the knots out.
Sometimes the really stubborn knots might have to be cut out but detangle as much as you can first. I prefer to have some shorter bits than lopping it all off but it’s up to you.
Good luck x

I cant believe I let it get to this

I know I wont even feel better becasue the problems ive created in life cant be solved

That’s the depression talking. You will feel a bit better if you do this for yourself. It won’t solve everything but it will help x

My hair is really long and hasn’t been cut in 2 years. It’s just turned the corner to insane matting territory! Really annoying as happens so quickly at nape of neck and behind ears area.

There’s a few ways to do it. First thing is to try to separate it into smaller chunks. Doesnt have to be even sections. Just wherever you can get a section so it’s isolating the matting or subdividing it. Doing this in the shower can help. You want atleast one split at the back or if that’s completely matted then try to get the sides free and leave the back.

Then there’s a few ways you can do it. Or combine both

  • Put on a film and have a bowl of water, tangle tweezer and conditioner.
  • In the bath with fingers underwater and massaging/ teasing into smaller sections. That enables you to push up instead of just pulling down which helps get the knots free. Kind of spreading out the mat, pushing up underwater, letting it float free, spread out the mat, repeat and repeat until it starts to fall into smaller sections

Start with the easier sections to gain confidence. Start at the bottom and work up slowly.

Be patient. Plait sections when they are done to protect your progress.

You can do this. Do you have a trusted friend that you could ask as I’m sure they would be willing to help you. I know I would. I’ve been there with depression and it’s such a horrible illness. Please be kind to yourself xx

If you run out of detangling spray you can make more by mixing conditioner with water in the spray bottle.

Good luck. It happens a lot more than you think - Instagram and tiktok are full of videos of hairdressers taking days to help people with matted hair. You are worth taking time over x
