Is there anything I can do about moles on my face that won’t bankrupt me?

I’ve got several ugly raised moles (well I assume they’re moles, some are brown but others are more flesh coloured) and they’re really getting me down. GP says they’re not a concern which is obviously good but it means they won’t remove them. I’ve got an important event this year and I’m so self-conscious but I can’t afford 3 figures x 3 or 4. Is there anything else I can try that might help?

Following with interest! It's absurd to me how expensive mole removal is. It's like a 10 minute procedure!! I had one 'removed' from my nose (they didn't do a great job, it grew straight back!) and that was £500 - around 20 years ago when £500 actually meant something!!

It’s worth a consultation with a dermatologist. In one office visit they can likely tell you what each mole or skin bump is and whether anything can be done easily to remove them. I took my daughter to one and it was $275. I can’t imagine it being more than that in England.

Thats the thing, the consultations seem to be around that but then the work is much more, I just don’t have that kind of money.

I paid £130 for three a few years ago.

Depends where you live maybe.

It sounds like they really bother you, OP so if I were you I'd take a loan out and just go for it with a proper recommended dermatologist. Don't risk cheap fixes that may leave bad scarring or create further problems.

I'm due to have 3 moley/ warty things taken off soon .
Don't think the NHS takes them off anymore as it's classed as cosmetic and not medical .
I paid an initial £15 for a check of them , then it will be £50 for the first one then £25 after for everyone after . They will be using a crypto pen ( it freezes them off )
So total £115 , a check up after a few weeks and anything still there , frozen again for that price included .

I had some removed in the past with advanced electrolysis, which was pretty cheap. The last time I tried to get one done though the beautician said she needed to see a doctor’s letter to say it was ok for them to be removed. You could try that route though if the moles aren’t too big.

Fluffypuppy1 · 17/02/2026 08:18

Cryotherapy is pretty cheap. Google FreezPen cryotherapy to see if it’s available near you. A clinic near me does it, apparently from £50. You may want to have your moles checked first, but places like Boots do that quite cheaply too.

CoastalGrey · 18/02/2026 09:27

Thank you, I've found somewhere that does cryotherapy so going to book a consultation although I'm a bit concerned some of my 'things' will be too big to be treated that way. @FrostyFlo what are yours like if that's not too personal?!
