Bras and sweats post-op

Help me find what I am looking for?
I’m going to be off work for at least 6 months as I will be having treatment, an operation, then more treatment I do not want to talk about it.

Bras
I need easy to pull on/front fastening bras.
My boobs are large, usually I wear underwired balconette bras. This will not be an option for me.

I’ve already tried the M&S flexi ones, unfortunately it was like two melons in a corner shop carrier bag.
OTOH I tried some Miss Mary non-underwired firm hold bras and the fit was very off.

My existing sports bras are excellent but too tight and restrictive for the access needed.

Sweatshirt bottoms and hoodies

I would like some thick tracksuit bottoms I feel the cold and some thick hoodies or button/zip down sweat tops.
I’m going to buy larger sizes so medical teams can have access if medical teams need it.

Meant to say no big brands on them.

I've got some lovely thick joggers from https://www.sundaizclothing.co.uk/ - the 'fleece' ones are normal jogger material outside with a thick soft fleece linking. Not tried any of the tops but was really impressed with the quality of the trousers.

@martha79 I’ll take a look, thank you.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie thank you. I have tried them and the only way they would have held me in would be if it was bodily duct taped to me, around the width of my whole body!

Ive lost half my body weight over the last two years but when I was massive chested I always wore glamorise bras. They are so comfortable and really supportive without being uncomfortable. Im gutted my bust is too small for them now because I loved the comfort. Even their bralettes are super supportive.
You can also get medical access track bottoms so you can buy your normal size and everything is accessible with zips.
I wore these after major orthopaedic surgery. They are good for catheter access too. They do tops also.

I have worn crop tops with a support style vest over. Could I run in that? No but I didn’t need to.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 14/02/2026 08:43

All the best for your op, @AsleepOnTheCarpet.

Oh dear - sorry!

I have recently had surgery and had similar issues. I am usually a 34H so finding pull on bras was tricky! I found multipacks of crop tops in a bigger size than normal - I am usually a medium but bought 2xl and they are not too bad. I wouldn't manage to run in them as they are not overly supportive but they cover as needed!

I put them on by pulling them up feet first and they are stretchy enough to work.

Starhaf · 14/02/2026 10:36

Ive been there. Put up with M&S front fasteners initially then moved to Shapermint bras once front fastening was not longer vital. I think Asda have some decent post surgery front fastener - might be worth a look

Octavia64 · 14/02/2026 10:38

Most supermarkets sell thick fleecy jogging bottoms. I’ve got five in various colours.

i can’t wear bras anymore due to pain. I wear Uniqlo vests with built in elastic bra.

noclingfilm · 14/02/2026 11:00

I can’t help with bras, but I have both joggers and sweatshirts like this from Navy Grey. Super soft and cosy, all cotton, wash and dry well without losing shape.

@GettingbysomehowCongratulations on losing so much weight, how did you do it?
The Glamorise low impact sports bras are exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.
I needed something with more heft than the M&S ones but not as hardcore as my usual workday battle armour bras.
Thank you.

Though I would like to avoid the rehabilitation trousers if I possibly can! Firstly because, despite everything my body is going through I’m still a vain cow 🐮 😆 and secondly; as the whole thing is expected to take so long I would like clothes I could wear until this time next year and feel - if not good - then a bit human in.
Tbh you are I am sure that you are right about the trousers and I am wrong, I just want to change from pyjamas every day into something a bit nicer this maybe optimistic but I want to try! In all of this shit I just want to feel a bit human.

@treeowlthat sounds great.
In my particular case though the medical staff need to be able to access my chest area. One bra/bralette will be ok.
In a medical emergency they will not want to/be able to get through too many layers.
Also my medical treatment is going to go through the summer. If we have a hot summer I will broil in a bra, vest and another top.

@ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNewsthank you ♥️ that’s really kind.
I’m trying to be brave but I have come back to bed because I feel as sick as a dog, you have made me teary. Thank you feels inadequate, really though I appreciate the good wishes. 🤞

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie no, I’m sorry.
I was trying clumsily as it turned out to inject some humour into this. If I don’t laugh I’ll cry and all that.
I am sorry, I wasn’t being mean or sarcastic.

@handmademitlovehow are you feeling now?
Be well soon ♥️.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to pull something up the length of my body.
Thank you though. A speedy recovery to you.

@StarhafI will take a look at Shapermint, thank you.
As my treatment has already started I can’t get out to shops to look buy clothes and DH, whilst being brilliant in a million ways, is no clothes shopper 😆.

@Octavia64again, that’s a great suggestion but I can’t get to the shops.
Uniqlo was one of the first places I tried, they are the vests that my boobs escaped from.

@noclingfilmthey look exactly like the kind of thing I was looking for.
That’s brilliant, thank you ☺️.

I have to do my shopping online, after dozens of tries my successes so far are:
2 x Free People - You Wish Pants - warm enough, elasticated waist with pockets.
2 x Free People - Timeless Pullover - I sized up so they can access my chest, they are button down <span class="line-through">actually poppers</span> so easy to access my chest.
3 x Uniqlo Soufflé cardigans - warm and snuggly
4 x Gap (from Next) V neck t-shirts - assuming I find a bra to go underneath they will be handy as long as I can find bras to go underneath.

I still need bras, more jogging bottoms without cuffs and easy access warm tops.

I would be grateful for anymore recommendations.
I will stop trying to make jokes about my situation, sorry everyone.

Ive just spent much of the last year in a similar position, watching Netflix and lying on the sofa - I've got a couple of love honey bras to wear post back op, they have been much comfier though I admit if I’m at home I’m just in a vest top.
Trousers - I’ve been in pjs mainly, but found some of the thick knit trousers comfy, elasticated waist and wide legs, from NEXT.
I definitely found soft, comfy fabrics made a real difference, I have some roper Nordic wool knitted socks, not only warm and cozy but make me smile!! Best of luck x

AsleepOnTheCarpet · 16/02/2026 00:17

@samlovesdilys how are you now?
And when can you get back up and at ‘em?
I’m sorry you have had a similar experience.
Please don’t tell anyone else this <looks around to check no-one else is listening> I am being brave for the sake of my family, but secretly I am really scared.

On a lighter note: I don’t think LoveHoney bras would fit me. My under to over bust ratio is ridiculous.
It would be funny if it wasn’t so expensive and I didn’t have to go to one a specialist bra shops.
They need proper scaffolding.

Thank you, I’ll take a look at Next.
Ooooh and those socks? I’m running all the way, thank you.

Thank you again - and best of luck to you too 💚

George at asda do a post surgery range and adaptive clothing for those with medical needs/devices.

Good luck and take care.

samlovesdilys · 16/02/2026 07:56

Hey, I think really scared is fair, me too, my kids are older but I keep saying that they still need me. Just pushing on I guess, taking all the drugs and doing each thing in turn, the worst thing is being told you are brave (or people are proud of me)
I definitely appreciate the soft and cozy materials. I also got an adult muslin blanket for the sofa when it’s too warm for my Sherpa but I still want a blanket!! Take care xx

AsleepOnTheCarpet · 16/02/2026 17:26

@WeirdoEx thank you but as my PP have said; I can’t get out to supermarkets and DH cannot buy me clothes 😆

@samlovesdilys ok. Thank you. I wouldn’t tell anyone irl that I am scared, I’m trying to be strong for them.
Our DCs are adults too, though the younger two still come home quite often.
I’m not brave and I am nothing to be proud of, being told those things makes me feel embarrassed.

Thank you for the recommendations wrt blankets and soft things, my skin already feels highly sensitised.

All the best to you 🧡
