What are you best at dressing for?

For me....I'm great at work wear. Love buying work clothes and finding it easy to style and look good.

I'm rubbish at casual winter clothes.. ... really struggle with what to wear and buy.

I'm pretty good at summer casual as find summer clothes so much simpler.

I can do a posh evening event but am useless at clubby type nights out now I'm older... everything looks too officey on me.

How about you...what events/seasons are you best at dressing for?

Pretty much the opposite. Wafting around on a winter city break or a day out - great. I can style layers, coat, winter footwear with the best of them. Work and summer - not so much! In summer I end up in rolled-up barrel leg trousers with a belt and a tucked in t-shirt most of the time.
Fortunately my work doesn't have a dress code so I can make my 15 pairs of jeans work.

minipie · 13/02/2026 22:07

I can’t do anything in between super casual and dressed up. I can do mooching or dolled up for party, not great with anything in between.

Possibly because I always gravitate back to my most comfortable clothes and shoes - unless it’s a full on party when my brain finally accepts I can’t wear jeans and trainers.

Also because I don’t really do accessories. Can’t be bothered!

Shinyandnew1 · 13/02/2026 22:09

Bed, I think 😂

PermanentTemporary · 13/02/2026 22:10

Funerals, providing it’s a classic all black version and not a ‘please wear bright colours’ one.

In general I’m fairly British in my preference for more formal wear with a strict dress code. I can do that.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 13/02/2026 22:11

I am good at 3 things: very dressed up for a night out, very relaxed, summer holiday

The rest, especially business attire is a mystery.

I also avoid all accessories and jewelry

Yes to this too....I can definitely dress for a funeral, have endless smart black dresses and jackets. I did attend a colourful funeral once and it was really tricky to dress for.

It depends on the trends! Now wide legs and flares are back I’m loving pulling together fab work outfits with knitwear, statement trousers and smart tops! Loving jewel tones mixed with neutrals.

Winter casual I’m struggling a tad but I think it’s because I’ve not quite found the right jeans yet! The choice of shapes now is amazing but it’s takingme longer to get it right.

Summer casual is hard work for me! I’m hourglass and need a supportive bra- the dainty spaghetti strap dresses of my dreams just don’t work for me! As I want to show off my waist and skim bust and hips, the choice of outfit shapes available to me are much more limited!

BrendaSmall · 13/02/2026 22:18

To be honest I’m more than happy in my p.j’s!
I don’t do smart clothes never have!
Got a job a couple of years ago and it wasn’t wearing a uniform, I couldn’t stand wearing Jeans or leggings, so I invested in some £6 joggers and they’re so comfortable 🤣 in the summer I would wear denim shorts, I’ve now got a new job and it’s back to uniform and it’s horrible, I’m dreading the time from may - September already without shorts

Geneticsbunny · 13/02/2026 22:29

Unfortunately a car boot sale or some decorating. I really need to up my game.

Lostearrings · 13/02/2026 22:32

Garden parties! I am always drawn to a nice summer frock and they suit me. I don’t live this sort of lifestyle at all.

FairViewRosie25 · 13/02/2026 22:35

I can’t do anything. There was a phase in my late twenties when I was size 12 and wore fitted wool trousers with pastel knits and heeled boots when I felt really good.

mynameiscalypso · 13/02/2026 22:36

I think Spring casual weather. I think I’m okay at winter casual dressing too but I’m extremely bored of it right now and everything gets ruined with a jumper or a coat over the top. I have all the right elements to be good at work dressing but I just feel like I can never quite pull it off and always slightly miss the mark. Not good at summer dressing because I hate having legs/arms/feet on display. I think that’s why I thing Spring is best, covered but still able to wear nice bits and pieces.

Flingotheflamingo · 13/02/2026 22:39

I can do office and formal to a tee. I’m petite and very slim so that works.

I can do summer with rolled up jeans/denim shorts and T-shirts/vests.

I’ve to be careful with dresses, I present as an ironing board. If I wear a dress or skin it has to be above the knee, otherwise the dress wears me.

So I’m good in work, I’m good during the 2 days of sunshine we get during the summer.. the rest of the time? No. My saving grace is my duvet coat that hides everything underneath during the winter months.

I cannot do any type of sportswear or loungewear. I have a slim, angular face that can look quite “hard” and I look like I’d do you harm Blush I absolutely cannot wear my hair tied up either.

FairViewRosie25 · 13/02/2026 22:40

My husband is taking me to a posh hotel next weekend. I don’t do dresses I’ve got M&S jersey trousers in grey or black with a nice cotton blouse or a cardigan. Will thi cut i

FlorenceLyons · 13/02/2026 22:41

Smart casual. I struggle with very dressed up or super casual, but in between is my sweet spot, pretty much whatever the occasion.

I’m much better at winter than summer dressing. I like to play around with my clothes a bit, and in summer it feels like there’s less opportunity to do that.

One thing I’d love to be able to wear but just can’t is the classic crisp white shirt. I love them on other people, but as soon as I put one on I look like I’m wearing a lab coat 🤣

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 13/02/2026 22:45

Winter casual for me. I have a lot of coats that I love, and I look best in dresses, boots and thick tights. I am built for afternoons in cosy pubs.

LilyCanna · 13/02/2026 22:45

Summer because I can wear sandals and then everything is easy. Love summer dresses! Other times of year my wide feet are basically only comfortable in trainers DMs or one particular pair of shoes and I feel that limits me to mostly being in jeans. I do really like my winter coat though so that makes me happy.

dudsville · 14/02/2026 06:33

I'm good for all aspects of my usual life. I love my clothes and they work well at home and work and socialising, the events of life, days at home meals out, summer, winter, the damp days in between, all good. I struggle with being able to anticipate what to wear abroad. I take several items, and then only want to wear 1 or 2 items. I do pack light, but it's still annoying.

Meadowfinch · 14/02/2026 06:49

I'm having fun trying to put this right.
During covid I was treated for breast cancer, plus I had a full time wfh job, so I was a bit down, stuck at home, didn't want to see anyone, lost my hair and was too tired to be bothered with clothes.

Then in 2024, with health restored, my hair grown back, and a new, very local office based job, I found most of my clothes were fit only for the bin.

Each month since, I've bought at least one thing, better quality than I used to buy, all carefully thought about. It's been brilliant. I have glorious holiday clothes and winter sweaters from Bosie. 😊After three horrible years, I'm being a bit self indulgent. And somehow now it is easier to try new styles and shapes.

TheOGCCL · 14/02/2026 09:46

Smart casual for me. Most of my clothes can be worn anywhere.

I’m not great at occasion dressing, I find it hard to get dressier things that don’t make me look older or I feel too try too hard.

LaurieFairyCake · 14/02/2026 09:57

Everyday nice dressing. I’ve worked hard at it.

I assume ‘going out wear’ will be what I’m shit at. Always do too much make up. Plus I don’t go out fancy to test it.

MadisonMontgomery · 14/02/2026 10:01

I can do very smart, or very casual. I really struggle with the middle ground - drinks with friends, going for a relaxed meal etc. I have honestly considered hiring a stylist to give me a list of outfits for different occasions because I never know what to wear and all my friends always look fab!

I'm the same. But I am outstanding at dressing for foul weather dogwalking!

Waitingfordoggo · 14/02/2026 10:48

Exercise, dog walking and bed. Anything else, I’m a bit stuck 😂

Floisme · 14/02/2026 11:56

I think I'm best at low key going out - coffee shop, pub lunches, early evening drinks and food etc.

It used to be fancy dressing that was my thing but I'm out of practice these days although I'm sure I could rustle something up.

Definitely winter. I love a big coat over loads of layers. I'm not great in the sun so I've always had to cover up in the summer. I have a kind of uniform that works but I'm always bored senseless with it by September,
