Bras for saggy boobs.

Have lost five stone recently (without injections so hopefully won’t regain it all). However it has really impacted my boobs. They were never huge but I’ve breastfed four children and am now 50 - so they are really empty and saggy. 36B at the moment. I need a bra that will lift them up and give me some shape. I also need one that doesn’t cause lots of flesh to be pushed up under my arm pits - which is what a lot of them do and they look awful. Does anybody have any recommendations? Not too expensive, I have very little disposable income at present.

I would recommend a bra fitting in somewhere like john lewis, bravissimo or an independent lingerie shop. M&S are no good at measuring

What top size are you? 36B is a very rare size. Try measuring yourself by using the guidelines on the boob or bust website.

Flesh your your arm pits needs to be scooped into the bra.

Balcony style bras are your best bet I think. They lift and give you shape. You can also get ones with size support. I measured myself using the boob or bust website (was shocked at the size it said but it proved to be right!) then ordered from Brastop who have lots at discounted prices. You could also try house of Fraser as they also have some good deals but beware they don’t refund, only exchange.

Hi, well done on the weight loss, I've also lost 4 stone recently and had 4 children and I am in my 50's.

Before the weight loss, I thought I was a 38DD and always had spillage out the side boob. After the weight loss I then went for a bra fitting at John Lewis and they measured me at a 34 EE. I was shocked. What materialised was that most of my boobs/ flesh/ fat was under my arm pits, side boob kind of thing. What the EE size cup did was scoop all the extra flesh into the bra. I bought a plunge bra (as I was needing a low cut bra for a special event) it's brilliant, totally holds me all in at long last and looks fab. It is the most expensive bra I've ever bought but is so worth it and so comfy I wholeheartedly recommend this one.

But my advice is to go for a proper fitting.

Id recommend a fitting at JL too and look at brands such a Fantasy or Freya where they have deeper sided bras that keep your side flesh within the bra. Yes, uplift and shape are what you need!

Forgot to say: Rigby and Peller if they a shop you can get to. I remember my teenage dd getting angst about bra fitting and they really were helpful - not cheap bras but you look and feel so much better!

letshavetea · 13/02/2026 10:27

There’s no way round the price I’m afraid. Try John Lewis or Bravissimo for fitting. I like Fantasie bras, but there are lots of other nice makes, it’s a question of finding one for you.

Dealing with a similar problem and have gone down the rabbit hole of 'A Bra That Fits'. It's Facebook and Reddit, full of information and explains very clearly why it's not just about size but also shape, placement etc. It all makes sense now. I haven't quite found my perfect bra yet because our location means a lot of ordering online rather than going into shops to try and that's a slow process but I'm certainly experiencing a far better shape under clothes than I used to and understand why I've made so many poor bra purchases in the past!

@FullLondonEye Have a holiday where there’s a R&P shop! It’s definitely worth it. We spend money on hair etc but expect to get a cheap bra. Spending the money makes a huge difference to confidence and posture.

BitterlyLemon · 13/02/2026 10:39

I wear the full cup bras from m and s. They are brilliant at giving shape and you can just shove your boob in them 😂. I am 52 and have exactly the same problem!

It does sound as though, with the flesh under the arms problem, you might be wearing too large a band and too small a cup. I would try going down at least one band size, and up a cup size. If you can go somewhere for measuring, all the better, but otherwise you could try on some alternative sizes.

If the bra is the right size and good quality it should support you no matter what the style; the different styles are more about what you're wearing on top, e.g. you don't want a full coverage bra with a low cut dress.

I like side support balcony styles - Bravissimo did one called Alana that gives a lovely youthful shape but I think it’s been discontinued.

Definitely go for measuring and try some on (not M&S - I hate their bras).

If you find one you like then look on Vinted as I’ve picked up several that way brand new for around a tenner - a decent one from Bravissmo be about £35 these days.

That's really not the case - understanding the different shapes is what has made more difference for me than sizing. Anything with a low gore is a disaster for me.
