but to leave just the shoes blue would look odd i imagine

like i'd put the wrong shoes on in the dark

the trick for this is usually to pick (eg) a bag with blue in the pattern rather than solid blue.

There are less hats than you'd think, esp in Stewards where people are more likely to actually be interested in the rowing. Handy if it's sunny though.
NB skirt does cover knees, doesn't it?
