What do people wear in their hair / on their head for weddings?

I have a massive head and hats never fit me. I have read that fascinators are old hat and unfashionable.

But it doesn't seem wedding-y to wear nothing. Any pointers?

Clip-in fascinators grip your hair not your head so size doesn't matter. Fascinators Direct do lovely ones from about £23 in 14 colours.

There’s no such thing as a ‘lovely’ fascinator. They are all gopping.

I still like a hat 🤷‍♀️ it’s the thing that makes a wedding different from other dress-up dos

I wear the hideously named "hatinator" to weddings. It's basically a hat on a hairband so the size of your head shouldn't matter.

And there's no way you'd catch me bareheaded at a wedding!

Sorry for repeat post. It was sitting in the draft. Just realised I sent it earlier!

I'm interested in how you know in advance that you are going to a "fashionable wedding".

I am going to the wedding of a close friend's daughter later this year. I have known friend and daughter for about 20 years. I have met the fiance but don't know his parents. I obviously know where the wedding is.

Does a wedding have to be in a specific place to be "fashionable"? Do the parents of the bride/groom have to have certain jobs? Do they have to have a certain level of income? Does there have to be a ban of people over the age of say 50, or over a dress size of 16? Do people have to wear those "fashionable" sacks which are often recommended? SO many questions.

I think I'd rather go to a fun wedding than a fashionable one, tbh. A clip or some sort of beaded hairband might be the way to go if I decide against a fascinator. Or maybe, because i'm the "wrong" side of 50 and not achingly hip and trendy, I should just stay at home and not curse their special day with my utter frumpiness.

👏 well said

I like a big hat.

I know people think it’s outdated, but I think headwear is what makes wedding outfits special.

Agree.

It's what makes a wedding different from 'a party'.

@ImPamDoove - you might like to know it is possible to disagree, or hold a different opinion without being so rude.

I went to two weddings in 2025. I agree that fewer people wear hats / fascinators / hatinators than used to wear hats to weddings 40 years ago BUT at both the weddings I've been to in the last year had lots of the younger guests wearing fascinators, or those fancy headbands. My generation (parent / Aunts of the B&G) more wore hats, hatinators, and some fascinators.

Karen Moss is hardly “frumpy” !

Nothing - but I wear great earrings!

I'm tall with lots of wavy hair, so long chandelier/drop earrings suit me. Hats/fascinators don't - & I hate most of them anyway. I'm late 50s & do find the majority of them frumpy/dowdy/dated*.

*Insert word of choice. I don't think frumpy or the above alternatives are restricted to older women - or even women.

If I think of Boris Johnson (though I'd rather not ...), & his ill-fitting, baggy, low-crotched suits, the word frumpy seems quite apt?? Along with plenty of other descriptors ... 😁!!!
