Superdrug cleansing balm vs Clinique cleansing balm?

Has anyone gone from Clinique to Superdrug or vice versa? I use Clinique but I am wondering if the Superdrug cleansing balm is worth a punt.

I have often read that spending £££ on cleansers isn't worth it, unless you have allergies, because it doesn't stay on your skin.

I found the best cleanser for make up was The Bodyshop Chamomile Cleansing Butter, but I have used and like Superdrug's Naturally Radiant range. I currently use Nivea's 2 in 1 milk and toner. I don't wear eye make up so I don't know how good it is for removing mascara.

I have recently used the blue Superdrug cleansing balm and it does do the job but I’ve found it leaves a bit of a greasy film on my eyes no matter how much I wipe it away. Also found it a bit stingy around the eyes compared to others I’ve used. I’ve heard good things about the BodyShop one mentioned above.

I've only used Superdrug's, but wanted to add that it's fantastic! I introduced my mum to it and she now loves it.

Worth a go as part of a double cleaner routine. If you tolerated the scent in the Clinique one you should be ok with SD one. I switched from Eve Lom to it and no complaints. I do, however, prefer the ordinary squalane cleanser as the first step of my double cleanse routine.

I just asked Chat to compare the ingredients, effectiveness, reviews and cost.
I'd definitely go Superdrug.

Summary - Both the Clinique and Superdrug cleansing balms are oil-based makeup removers with similar basic ingredients, and both will get makeup and sunscreen off. Clinique’s is lighter, more refined, fragrance-free and often feels easier to rinse and better on sensitive skin, while the Superdrug one is richer with more oils and fragrance, and is much cheaper. If you wear heavy makeup or have sensitive skin, Clinique might feel nicer, but the Superdrug balm is great value and works well for everyday use.

I think it's worth trying cheaper ones. I love eve lom and have tried loads at a similar and lesser price point. I didn't like clinique. For me I decided that the ordinary one was a fine cheesiest option for my skin. It's not as enjoyable, and the texture is very different, but gives a similar feel on my skin afterwards.

I follow an account on IG and yesterday there were comparing these 2 cleansers and a £150 one. They said to buy the Superdrug one

I’ve gone from Eve Lom to the Elf cleansing balm (in the blue pot) - I use it with a muslin cloth and it does just as good a job as Eve Lom, in fact I prefer it as it’s less sticky! And about a fifth of the price …

I’ve tried the Superdrug cleansing balm- it gave me a lot of break outs. If you are at all break out prone I wouldn’t recommend. I usually use lots of oils and heavy creams on my skin but this really didn’t work for me. I love the Elemis cleansing balm though!

Useful thread as I've been wondering about switching from Elemis balm to something cheaper. I find the Elemis leaves my skin a bit red, but I suspect that's purely because of double cleansing and would be the same with any other. I do love the sensorial aspect of the Elemis though.

I really like the Boots no.7 cleansing balm and it’s on offer atm. Just as good as the Lisa Eldridge one I had.

catin8oot5 · 10/02/2026 10:13

I use the Superdrug B one in a pink tub and I love it!

Housewife2010 · 10/02/2026 10:18

If you would consider a cleansing oil, the Superfacialist one is excellent. I've used high end ones and this one and it compares favourably. It rinses clean off too with no residue. I hate having to use a second cleanser just to remove the grease left behind.

I’m currently using this and do like it but I find it gets a bit grubby looking, which is annoying.

Body shop one is far superior to both (and I spent 15 years working for Clinique)!

This. I use a scentless / perfume free cleansing balm (pretty much any kind, although the geek and gorgeous one does seem to clean particularly well compared to others) and a Cetaphil cleanser.

the Cetaphil is one of the few cleansers that doesn’t sting my skin, so that’s a win for me :)
