Brunette Box Dyes

I colour my hair a medium neutral brown. My natural colour is/was auburn. When my roots come through I have a bit of white/grey in the mix of a light copper brown, but my roots are super stubborn to dye over. I usually use Olia Brown, which I really like the result, only I don’t like how it
feels after I’ve dyed it, even after washing - it leaves the feeling like you still have the product in your hair, so you really have to give it a good wash straight after dying it. Also, like many other permanent dyes, it fades too quickly, maybe because you have to give it a good wash straight after dying it!

I have had my hairdresser colour my hair a couple of times in past, so even with a salon colour the colour has gone from my hair within week, especially from root area.

I’ve used Nutrisse before, that didn’t touch my roots. I’ve used Nice & Easy both semi permanent & permanent, which I did like the results of, but I’ve read recent reviews that are putting me off, apparently they’ve changed the formula. I’ve tried L’Oréal Casting Creme, Garnier Belle, both of which were ok, just faded rather fast. Poly colour Tint was ok at covering my roots, again it just fades so quickly. I have tried John Frieda once before, the foam one, but I didn’t have any white/greys then, how is that for grey coverage? Sounds a lot of dyes but it is over a lot of years, like 16,17!
Anyone tried L’Oréal Excellence or preference or Josh Wood? I just want a rich, neutral or ash medium brown, that will cover my stubborn roots!

I use the Wella Koleston Perfect Me+ and mix the developer in a 1:1 ratio. As it comes in a tube you can mix whatever quantity you need just to do your roots and it works out cheaper as 1 tube will do 10x applications.

I bought the mixing bowl from Temu which is excellent and the Wella products from Amazon.

I moved from Olia 4.0 to Wella KP as I got tired of fading into orange shades. One day I just looked around and noticed all my colleagues using box colors are brassy.

Before Olia I was using L'Oreal excellence cream 4.0 and don't remember this kind of fading.

For me, 1 tube of Wella KP is enough for 2-3 applications. I started with 20 vol developer as I have a lot of grey hair, but now switched to 13 vol.

If you try it, remember to start from lighter shade because numbers don't always match and it's easier to fix lighter tone than the darker one.

I use Nice n easy and really like it. Not sure why they might have negative reviews and haven’t noticed any change in formula.
Maybe go back to this?

Thanks for replies. I’m sure it’s Wella Kolesten that my hairdresser used! I could go a shade darker but I’m afraid it would look too dark like black!

I came across some very old photos on a laptop from years & years ago, I had the most lovely hair colour, I’d obviously dyed it as it was a lovely mid-dark brown, no signs of red or orange in it & really shiny. I can’t remember what exactly I used if I had to hazard a guess, the only ones I probably used back then were either Nice & Easy, or Garnier Belle.
