Jumpsuits that don't cut you in half - what brands/styles??

I am not tall. I am about 5' 5" or 165 cm. But I am out of proportion in that I have a long body from shoulder to crotch and wee short legs. What this often means is that jumpsuits, swimsuits and similar cut me in half and are very uncomfortable and unflattering. I do have this one: https://ebay.us/m/hBgADD which is comfortable and doesn't cut me in half, I think because it is wide legged. It's lovely, but quite work-wear rather than going out or special occasion wear.

I have a couple of events coming up this year that I'd like to get something new for and fancy a jumpsuit. I am menopausal and size 14 so nothing super clingy or revealing. I don;t want to be ordering a loads of stuff and sending it back.

Can anyone recommend styles or brands which are particularly good for us long-bodied, short-legged types??? Budget up to £100 ish. Happy - more than happy - to buy second hand.

Try sugarhill brighton. I also found Oliver Bonas jumpsuits were a bit longer in the body (and sadly also longer in the leg too).

TheGoddessAthena · 08/02/2026 11:17

That's the problem - items which are longer overall would need to be taken up to fit my wee short legs.

I have the opposite problem, very short body and long legs so I cant wear things like that as the crotch hangs down like a B-boy's trousers.
I look better in separates.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 08/02/2026 12:03

Following with interest as I have the same proportions. I'm also V shaped with broad shoulders and narrow waist, which makes it worse - I need to buy a 12 to fit my shoulders and bust, but my waist and hips are an 8.

If anyone can suggest a jumpsuit that would work for me that would be great

I have short legs / long body but am also short overall. And I tend to avoid jumpsuits because they rarely fit. However, I bought this one from Reiss, which I love and fits well (apart from the length which needed adjusting), so it might be worth trying some of theirs.
Maybe jumpsuits are just one of those things you just need to try on..

I am not particularly good at sewing or anything at all, but shortening something like a jumpsuit is probably one of the easiest things you can do - you can buy iron on sticky tape if you can't sew, I've used hair grips/paperclips instead of pins to measure the right length, then literally just fold up inside and iron to hold. Might be your best option if something fits everywhere else.

I don't know how anyone ever manages to go for a wee wearing a jumpsuit. Especially in public toilets with lakes of pee surrounding the toilet.

I suspect you have to be a lot more agile than me to manage to remove the top part without it getting anointed with unsavoury fluids from the surrounding environment.

Add urge incontinence into the mix and jumpsuits become even less tempting. Skirts or dresses are much easier to lift and hold making them a lot less likely to get splattered.

So I see them as a young woman's garment, worn to flaunt the dependability of her youthful bladder sphincter.

TheGoddessAthena · 08/02/2026 13:26

The issue I have with the one jumpsuit I have is the contortions needed to zip it up again at the back.

No help for dressy jumpsuits I’m afraid, I can only recommend some casual ‘utility’ brands: LF Markey and Finisterre are my favorites. I’m 5’7” but long in the body, I’ve yet to find a comfortable swimming costume but these jumpsuits are amazing and not at all awkward in the loo (I’m 58 as is my bladder 😀)

OP have you seen the thread about buying a wedding guest outfit after the cleaners lost the poster’s dress? She bought a beautiful pink silk jumpsuit from Me & Em which looked generously proportioned. Might be some that fit the budget on Vinted. (ETA: length may need to be altered, iirc trousers do run long in this brand and unless you find a cropped or cuffed style it might be worth it to shorten the leg if the body fits.)

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 08/02/2026 14:11

I am both long bodied and long legged and find Mango jumpsuits are often long enough in the body for me. They might be too long in the leg for you but could probably be taken up fairly easily.

Stretchy fabric is your friend.

Co ord that looks like a jumpsuit?

Nitgel · 08/02/2026 17:41

Whistles jumpsuits seem.to be out longer.

TheGoddessAthena · 08/02/2026 17:50

Agree that longer / tall jumpsuits may be the way to go. We have a very good repairs/seamstress lady locally.

I am the same height and proportions. I have a jumpsuit from Whistles that fits perfectly. Might be worth a look?

I attach a string to the zip that I tuck back inside once zipped up..I've rescued one too many ladies in the lavs over the years.

I have a Varley jumpsuit !
I can't recommend enough it's casual but u cud deffo dress it up with shoes and jewellery!! Stunning

SharpWriter · 08/02/2026 18:41

Try Free People/We the Free. Not cheap so look on Vinted. I'm 5ft 9 and they fit really well in the length, although I'm pear shaped. Their size M is about a 12-14.

HHCrochetDiva · 08/02/2026 18:49

Popsy do lovely comfy jumpsuits, if you try and get preloved then you could see how the body length is, you go down a size on high street sizes. If you buy new they will adjust leg length for you before they send it out.

suburburban · 08/02/2026 18:53

I had a Seasalt one and it wasn’t too bad as I’m long waisted
