Can any recommend a good factor 50 for the face? I’ve just got back from a few days in the sun and despite using Lancaster SPF 50, I have burnt and am now peeling above my lip! I usually tan really well, but my face was red this time. I’m away for a couple of weeks in March where it’s going to be even hotter!

I live near the beach and can spend alot of time there in the spring/summer.
Skinnies from NZ is amazing & I use that for proper protection at beach & when outdoors for long periods.
I like the Ordinary under makeup.

I'm very sensitive to SPF on my face (eye problems with it) and both these are OK. Sadly I can't tolerate many including La-Roche Posay.

Skinnies is pricy but a tube lasts at least one summer (probably 2). They also do a 30SPF tinted version which I use too.

"Skinnies Conquer SPF 50+ is a high-performance, waterless sports sunscreen designed to provide long-lasting, broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. It is highly concentrated, meaning a small, pea-sized amount is sufficient for the face, neck, and ears.
Key Features & Benefits

  • Waterless Technology: Unlike traditional sunscreens that contain 50-70% water, Skinnies is made without water, forming a thin, clear layer on the skin that lasts longer.
  • High Performance/Sport: Offers 4-hour, long-lasting water resistance, making it ideal for swimming, surfing, and high-intensity sports.
  • No White Residue: Rubs in clear, making it suitable for all skin types and tones.
  • Non-Greasy & Fast-Drying: Dries in about 2 minutes and does not feel greasy, though it can feel thick upon application.
  • Reef Safe: Compliant with Hawaii Act 104 and other reef-safe standards.
  • Won't Sting Eyes: Designed not to sting eyes, even when sweating profusely.
  • Formulation: Contains New Zealand Manuka Oil to nourish the skin.
  • Clean Formulation: No parabens, preservatives, fragrances, alcohol, or emulsifiers.
  • Vegan: Cruelty-free and vegan-friendly.
Application & Usage
  • Amount: Use a pea-sized blob for the face, neck, and ears.
  • Application: Apply 2 minutes prior to sun exposure.
  • Reapplication: Reapply every 4 hours or after swimming/sweating.
  • Shelf Life: 24 months. "

La-Roche Posay SPF50 works well for me

I second this; I use this all year round

Nivea Shine Control - does the job, not too expensive, great base for make up, not shiny or stingy. Haven’t felt the need to try anything else since finding it, prefer to LRP for what it’s worth…

Thank you all, I do appreciate it. I am really careful with my face in the sun so this is really the first time I’ve suffered with burning and redness. I have a horrible suspicion menopause may not be helping 🙄

Initially I was using cerave but then shifted to la roche posay and I feel it's great for my sensitive skin and it also sits well on makeups. Will share that my routine with that:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
LRP spf
Cicaplast
Evening:
LRP moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

Another vote for La Roche Posay - the one in the square bottle. Goes on like a dream, and excellent protection.

I really rate Bondi Sands SPF fluid. I have very oily, sensitive skin. This doesn't leave my face like an oil slick and also doesn't break me out. Nice sized bottle too for traveling.

dd's have just spent a week skiiing - full sun skiing for 7 days. they both used the Piz Buin 50SPF face stuff and it worked brilliantly. Excellent protection.

Environ RAD is fabulous - developed by a South African dermatologist for very high exposure and high risk environments.

I sear by LRP's spf

Ultraviolette Future Fluid SPF 50 - absolutely brilliant stuff, the only sunblock I’ve ever tried that I don’t dread wearing! It’s a mineral formula so better protection and longevity, at least in my experience. I have pale freckly skin, used it for 3 weeks in Australia and came home without a tan so it definitely works🤣 Slightly tinted and gives you a gorgeous, healthy glow.

Have tried LRP and found it greasy - definitely broke me out.
