Permanent lash enhancement liner

Is it painful?

Hi, I'm booked in to have this done next week, just a thin dark brown line on my top lashes to make them look fuller, they're starting to thin as I get older and I'm not great with make-up.

I've done a lot of research, but accounts seem to vary greatly as to whether it's a painful procedure or not, so, if you've had it done, interested to hear how uncomfortable you found it? Wanting to prepare myself!

Thanks

I’ll have to come back once I’ve had mine done to let anyone else thinking of having it done how I found it!

I had mine done many moons ago and it was painful but not unbearable. You’ll be able to take breaks as needed and it’s over very quickly.

I had mine done 10 years ago and it’s still there but a bit fainter.

Amazing to hear it has lasted so long!

Can I ask if you keep your eyes closed throughout? My appointment is for two hours, which I presume is to allow for breaks, but feels like a long time.

Is this like a tattoo?

I kept my eyes closed whilst she was actually tattooing as they have to stretch the skin so it’s tight. I had lots of breaks to blink and open my eyes.

I’ve had my eyeliner tattooed on, is that what you mean. It’s quite scratchy but the top up was much more comfortable.
Not really painful but it’s difficult not to keep blinking. Eyes open I think
i think it took just over an hour first time round and about an hour for the top up.
I love it, it makes a huge difference!

Following with interest!

It is, but normally fades after a couple of years

Pleased to hear you love yours, it's something I've been wanting to do for a few years but has taken a while to pluck up the courage to actually book the appointment!

I was thinking of getting this too. I've had my eyebrows and lips done recently, eyebrows were fine, lips were very painful. I need my lip top up next month, and am not looking forward to it. I figure eye liner is a lot less area than lips.

I had my liner done today, so thought I'd come back and update.

It wasn't painful at all thankfully! It took just over an hour, I only had a thin line done, so probably takes longer if you're going for something thicker.

The technician started by cleaning and then numbing my eyelids with a cream. She then went back and forth between the two eyes to give each lid a break, regularly topping up the numbing cream.

It felt a bit scratchy and tickled, and my eyes felt a little stingy at times (like when you get shampoo in them) but it wasn't painful.

What I did really struggle with was keeping my eyes still and closed! As soon as I was told I had to keep them closed, they wanted to automatically open, and they were moving involuntarily!

It's now 3 hours later, and my lids feel a little tender, but otherwise all good and I'm pleased with how they're looking. Booked in for a follow up appointment in 6 weeks to see if they need topping up etc.

Thank you for updating- I've wondering about getting this done too.

sevenpercent · 14/02/2026 09:18

Thought I’d do another update. So, my eyelids have felt a bit swollen and sensitive, but this is improving day by day. Today the top layer is starting to flake off, apparently part of the healing process but it does feel a little itchy, so need to remember not to rub my eyes.

Where the top pigment has flaked off, it is currently looking very light underneath. I wasn’t sure if this was normal, but after googling it appears it is, and the colour will show more again over the next few weeks. Not sure how that works, but I’ll update again in a few weeks!

Hey @sevenpercent
How are you getting on? Have you had a top up yet? I’ve just booked for a lash enhancement so am interested.

Haven’t had the top up yet, another two weeks. It is much finer, and fainter now. For about a week it almost disappeared completely which panicked me, but it did come back. Apparently this is called the ghosting stage. My right eye does have a couple of tiny gaps, so I’m guessing they will get filled in at my follow up. I’m tempted to go a tiny bit thicker, but do quite like the fact it looks very natural atm, more just enhances my lash line as opposed to looking like I have makeup on. I’ll keep you updated after my next appointment.

Thanks for the update OP!

sevenpercent · 24/03/2026 14:58

Just back from my follow up appointment. The technician asked if I wanted to go thicker or more shaped, but I'd already decided to keep to a more subtle thin line just along my lash line. My aim was just to make my lashes look less patchy and thin, not to look line I had eyeliner on.

My appointment was only about 30 minutes as all she needed to do was neaten up the edges a little and go over a few lighter patches.

Like the first time it was uncomfortable but not at all painful, my main issue being I really struggled to keep my eyes still, but I get the feeling that's a me thing!

My eyelids are a bit swollen again, I don't think the numbing cream has worn off yet as they're not feeling as itchy as last time, so will have to wait and see as the day goes on.
