That gives me a 'well-presented' vibe while being comfortable and practical for caring for toddlers! As a nanny I live in bootcut jeans and FatFace tops which has always been fine, but I'm interviewing with some posher families with higher standards who want the 'polished' look. Please can you fashions gurus of Mumsnet help me find a couple of outfits that look professional but won't be ruined by the first drop of poster paint/smear of snot/splosh of spaghetti bolognese, and would allow me full range of movement, while being as comfortable as possible? I'm a heavily pear-shaped size 16. Thanks guys!

How much do you have to spend?

(Or do you want pre-owned?)

Higher standards might mean vaguely fashionable - ie, not bootcut jeans, nor Fatface anything. Maybe a tonal outfit - dark barrel leg jeans / cords and a navy jumper? Or similar in olive green, or camel? Or are they expecting a well cut shirt dress and knee high boots?

Maybe start by looking at all the new Cos collection, and observing how they put outfits together? I’m sure it’s mostly a matter of subtly updating colours and proportions.

As above, what are their expectations of what you’ll do day to day? How would things like a wool blazer fit your ideas?

There are some nice coords out at the moment and things that automatically go together make you look put together without you trying too hard (just avoid the overly casual jogger style ones that look like pjs!) - woolen type trousers with coordinated tops can be swapped for linen types in the spring/summer. Different textures can also help make things look high end, a white shirt underneath a wool jumper always looks more elevated than just a jumper alone paired with barrel or wide leg jeans to look more up to date. I got some great coord sets from Tu the other week, or M and S, or depending on your budget Hush or Whistles (whistles have a lovely waistcoat style top and trouser set in an olive and a linen colour).
