Why is my skin so bad?

I’m 39. My skin is always oily. My pores are large, I’ve got deep lines on my forehead and big dark circles under my eyes. Have attached a photo of my forehead to show what I mean about the skin issues.

I really don’t know what to do to make it look better?!

Ive always just used a Dove beauty bar and nothing more. Don’t really wear makeup but would if it would improve my skin.

I thought this was going to be an acne or other ailment thread. Your skin isn't bad OP. I think it looks really good for your age actually.

If you're worried about pore size then you might be able to find a treatment at a beauty salon- they'd be the people to ask. And lines can be reduced a bit with microneedling.

Dark eyes I dont know but there will be someone on here who will.

If you don't normally wear makeup and don't want to start (it wont improve your skin, only the appearance of it while you wear it), i'd be seeking expert advice in the first instance.

Honestly your skin does not look 'bad'. The pores especially are not something I would have noticed in this pic if you hadn't pointed them out, I think they look pretty normal.

For lines, peptide serums are meant to be good and you can get an affordable multi-peptide from The Ordinary.

Medicube Zero Pore Pads are popular. I would look for videos by dermatologists about how to use them properly.

Your dark circles might just be genetic but I would consider a caffeine/retinol based product. I remember reading about a 'miracle' product for dark circles a while ago, but it was insanely expensive and I can't remember the brand now.

Edited to add: in regards to makeup, maybe look into colour correcting for the dark circles. You apply a pink/orange shade of concealer to the under eye followed by a shade that matches your actual skin. The pink underneath will cancel out the darkness.

I’d suggest a gentle exfoliate 2/3 times a week. And then a moisturiser suitable for your skin type.

Makeup won’t improve your skin but it can make you feel more confident. Personally I prefer to try and improve how skin looks and have started wearing less and less makeup. I always recommend Nip+Fab on these threads.

It sounds counterintuitive but your skin may be oily because it needs moisture. It produces more oily to compensate for the dryness. I use a peptide cleanser and ceramide serum and moisturiser to help give my skin a better texture. I now look just nicely dewy instead of oily and my skin is clear. The peptide finishing oil is marketed as “natures Botox”. I have never been complimented on my skin before I started using them. I don’t work for them I promise! (I do have a discount code if you want it though)

So are you saying, @Imamumgetmeoutofhere, that you use one product, only?

I may have misunderstood.

But if that is the case, perhaps you’d enjoy looking through the last year’s worth of beauty threads on the S&B board? I’m sure there’s nothing intrinsically wrong with your skin, but most people use more products and may achieve a more refined look.

And of course, your diet, sleep and fresh air / exercise regime will all play a part.
