Weddings and hats/headwear

I am going to be Mother of the Groom later this year. I haven't decided on my outfit yet but I am 5ft 4 and size 6-8 so it's likely to be something neat and fitted rather than anything long or floaty.

My hair is a few inches past shoulder length, and I never wear it tied up. I also wear glasses. I know fascinators are considered a bit naff these days but wearing glasses makes hats more tricky. My trusted hairdresser would like to do a half up half down style with soft curls and a pretty hair clip but I am just not sure. I feel like I should have some kind of head wear.

Any thoughts or advice?

Unless this is the very, very poshest of weddings, you don’t need a hat.

Personally I love a hat, but it sounds like you don’t, so don’t wear one!

Fascinators are naff. Again, if you want to wear one that’s fine, but don’t feel you have to.

Generally a hat should work with your established personal style - so if you usually look cool and contemporary, a hat with those qualities will look good on you, but you wouldn’t feel yourself in something timid. And vice versa. Would a hat make you look the best version of yourself?

Alternatively - if you have a few months to prepare - is there any flexibility on either changing to contact lenses or changing your hairstyle / hair length? Either option could give you a different look, with or without headgear.

Hats are very much optional these days, don’t feel obligated

I love hats and I really do encourage you to wear one.
I now rent rather than buy. I now prefer to visit the hat place first, choose then find the dress/shoes to match. Hat places are used to advising on shape, size, balance. They will help you.

or if you prefer fond your outfit and take it with you.

Thanks all, I need to try some hats on I think. I haven't worn one for years. Can't do contact lenses any more, I have really dry eyes, and I am not sure about changing my hair, but it's not out of the question.

So I now need to find a hat shop where someone can give me some honest advice.
