So I want to get a derma pen, I'm mid forties so for anti aging - collagen production, crepey skin etc. there are so many I feel overwhelmed by the choice! Also I want one that I can buy cheaper compatible cartridges for. I want it to have different depth options. Any advice or recommendations please

I bought a dermastamp on Ali Express for my hairline. It’s adjustable depth, easily cleaned, etc. Does a greater surface area. You start with the shallowest depth and very slowly work up. Do it once a week then eventually twice. No more. Very important to sterilise every time with rubbing alcohol. Mine looks like this.

Help me understand what they're even for!

Oh right.., If used correctly, they cause very superficial micro injuries to the dermis (upper layer of skin). This is supposed to help prevent wrinkle formation and help with existing ones because the healing process promotes an increase in circulation and collagen production. In theory it also promotes absorption of active ingredients like vitamin c, retinols/retinoids and hyaluronic acid into deeper layers of the skin. (Obviously caution required here as well, as it increases chances of adverse reaction aseldom.) Derma rollers are more problematic due to the inconsistent angles of the needles as they go into the skin. The stamps literally go in on a 90’ angle and don’t cause tears. (Again, unless over used). It’s important to not go in hard and fast with them in case you cause scarring.
In my case, I use one to promote hair growth with minoxidil. (Alopecia). I have a separate one for my face that I use on my forehead, marionette lines and around my eyes and mouth. I also use tretinoin, so I am very conservative with my usage.
I hope this helps.
