A quality, large crossbody bag for everyday use

sammyvine · 24/01/2026 00:01

Hi all,

I would like to treat myself to a good quality crossbody bag/shoulder bag for everyday use, but I don't know where to look. I prefer the bag to be large so that it can hold essentials items like my phone, a book and water bottle.

It has been a very long time since I have invested in a bag and my budget is £350. I want the bag to last a long time and hold up well, and I prefer dark colours such as black or navy blue.

Thank you.

Pre-loved Mulberry?
A large East /West Antony, Small Bayswater satchel or Double zipped Bayswater could be good.
Or an Alexa, if you can cope with the buckles

Bit of a hunt to get on budget but they do come up.

Here you go. This is stunning in real life and you can adjust the top so it’s a large bucket style, an asymmetric top or a fold over. Amazing leather. Should be almost within reach in seasonal sales: https://deadlyponies.com/products/mr-leopard-black

this brand is amazing and I have never heard of it!

that bag id gorgeous

Have a look at Aspinals lots of choice on Vinted and they can be verified as genuine for ten pounds, that’s what I did got a corker for £150

SickSeven · 26/01/2026 20:53

I’ve a few of the osprey Hendrix hobo bags that are larger and can be used cross body. You can’t get them on their site anymore but I’ve seen them in Debenhams.

eta the Stella hobo is similar

Surely it's about a bag you like rather than a shop not being high-end enough?
It literally sells designer stuff.

What's the point of being snobby when you don't even know what bags you might like

ive had some lovely designer bags from there

Saurus72 · 26/01/2026 21:36

I have quite a few ‘high end’ designer bags - Chloe, Marni, Anya Hindmarch etc - but the ones I reach for more than any others are my two from Mimi Berry which are just brilliant quality and for some reason a joy to use. Various cross body in stock, some in the sale.

Is it possible to say you don't like TK Maxx bags? I've just looked, they've got Chloe, Hermes.... is it the shopping experience you don't like, are you looking to buy online or in a store?

@Buskingit Are you in the UK and did you buy it online? I have one of their bags already so I know the quality however I bought it when I lived in Oz. Looks lovely.

Buskingit · 27/01/2026 20:09

@cleaningthebog I bought it abroad on a holiday recently but am in the UK. I spent a LOT of time lovingly stroking the various bags. I could have bought half a dozen of them but the first one I linked to was my favourite as I like the variety of ways you can fold over the top (or not) and adjust the strap. I also loved it in the calf leather with gunmetal zips.

If you want larger then have a look at bags targetted to men.

My favourite brand for a while was - shit, now I've drawn a complete blank. If I remember I'll come back.

A different brand I rate is mandarina duck. I've always found them great quality.

I am sure there are brands that sell larger crossbody bags for women.

Cross body gives you a bad back if you put too much stuff in it.

I won't be putting too much stuff, just essentials like my phone, a small book, water bottle and cardholder.

Coach Brooklyn? Various sizes. I think the larger one is £450ish but a good quality larger bag that will last years.

Are Coach bags good? They are very expensive you would think they were a luxury brand!

Sorry, just noted you wanted a dark colour - this black quilted one is great: pompomlondon.com/products/pom-pom-london-quilted-city-plus-bag-black

Thanks for the recommendation but it's too small

If you want high end the Versace Medusa Biggie Messenger bag 😊 is currently £1200.
I actually bought a Versace demon drawstring bag in TK Maxx a few years ago and it's still used weekly. (Cost me £70).
Don't rule TK Maxx out entirely.

LancashireButterPie · 28/01/2026 01:39

Denim* not demon, although demon dies sound rather exciting 😄

JingsMahBucket · 28/01/2026 02:19

Hey @sammyvine similar to you, I carry the same items in my bag and I wanted a good quality leather bag. A couple years ago I saw someone mention The Leather Store on here and I bought a bag from them and I love it. It’s my everyday bag. Mine is called the Rose but I don’t think they sell that model anymore. Possibly the closest is the Ashley or the Amy now but mine doesn’t have any outer pockets because that’s not my style. Mine is a great size that easily holds a water bottle, Muji notebook or A5 planner, a make up bag, wallet, foldable shopping bag, pens, snacks, and all the mysteries of the universe in there. I highly recommend the company and the service and delivery was excellent!

I suggested T K Maxx because if you go to a store you can try it on. I always fancied a Mulberry Bayswater until I went to a shop and picked one up. It was heavy empty.
