Jeans and a Goddam T Shirt

Why can't I just wear jeans and a t shirt!!!

I'm 40 a size 14/16, apple shaped, broadish shoulders, muscular legs and arms, decent rack but a tummy that makes me look 6 months pregnant (2 kids, one c Section so now have a bit of an overhang)

Im currently losing weight which is great but all I really want to be able to do is just wear jeans and a t shirt!! My current uniform is jersey dress, leggings, I've not worn a structured waistband for a very long time!

Problem is because I'm all tum I need like a size 20 jean for it to not in anyway dig in round the waist and cause overhang,

High waist doesn't work for me as no gap between boob and waistband.

Non skinny jeans make me look massive and even if I find jeans I like that fit I have no idea what to wear with them as I just hate and am not used to exposing my tummy rolls!

My tummy will be the last thing to go on my weight loss journey and most likely will never be particularly flat

I really don't know if this is body dismorphia or I just have a weird body shape, I see plenty of people larger than me wearing jeans and t shirt and looking great, they all just tend to be pear shaped

Any help from mid size apple shaped ladies please to get me out of this rut!

I'm shaped a bit like you. Even when I have been extremely slim, I've always had quire a tummy. It has always annoyed me. In October 2024, i signed up to tbe Zoe study, which is all about each person eating a diet that is healthy for tbeir personal biology.

I have lost lots of weight (although the focus of it is not weight loss - but health) by following their advice and one thing I have noticed it's that my tummy has gone down a lot.

I learnt from this project, that my blood sugar control is poor. (I do not have diabetes
Or even prediabetes). I have also learnt which foods
spike my blood sugar - for example. I was surprised to learn that porridge does, even though it has a reputation for the opposite. This is very individual. Many people will not get a blood sugar spike from porridge.

I do wonder if in my case at least that the big tummy was due to a diet full of foods that spiked my blood sugar.

I am genuinely not trying to be mean but if you need size 20, jeans, does that not make you a size 20 rather than 14-16? At least on your bottom half anyway, top could be smaller? I am only mentioning it as I wonder if it might be easier to find the right jeans if you look for models a similar size or shape and see what they look like in various jeans? Lucy and yak have lots of beautiful larger models on their website. You might find something there although they are often higher waisted, but not always.

If you need size 20 jeans then you are not size 14 . Just buy clothes that fit, they look better

I have ibs.

i’m generally a size 16, but bloating can mean I’m anything from size 16 to 20 on my lower half.

i have several pairs of jeans

I am similar to you. I recently went up a dress size when buying clothes and jeans fit me a lot better. It’s great.

But I do know what you mean as larger sizes are often not right on the hips compared to the tummy, so you have to try loads on.

Maybe some sort of very stretchy jeans might be more comfortable as you could get a smaller size but stretchy round the middle- Halara are good for that. I’ve found that Next jeans can be wider cut on the waist than some other brands, which on my apple shape body gives a better fit on the hips and thighs. You could also try slim or straight jeans as opposed to skinny. But personally I’ve found that I don’t like exposing the shape of my tummy so I wear longer tops to cover . This can be problematic if you don’t always want to wear oversized shapes or loose T-shirts. For me, scoop neck T-shirts almost crotch length with an open shirt work well.

I’m a size 14 on bottom half and similar or 12 on top half.

I live in skinny stretch jeans (Tu and F&F) though I did buy a barrel leg jean from Tu recently that has no stretch and it actually looks really good, I could’ve maybe gone down a size though as looser round my waist/stomach area.

I volunteer with someone who’s a size 18, she wears stretch jeans with t shirts. Not sure where she gets her jeans from but t shirts look like Tu range. She has a slight stomach overhang too. But is generally in proportion I think.

Maybe go somewhere like Tu or F&F and get a few T-shirts try on in toilets or bring home.

She means the waistband would be a 20 to be comfortable but the bum and legs more like a 14.

Fellow apple here: just be patient and wait for the belly to go down a bit. But, whisper it: could maternity leans be your answer? A T-shirt would cover the waistband and means you get trousers that fit on the bum/legs but won’t dig in the tummy?

Can you get to a Levi’s store? The staff are usually pretty clued up as to what style and size will suit and they offer free alterations too.
