Unopened nail polish

I have a lot….a LOT ( hundreds)of unopened nail polish bottles, just about every colour you could ever think of & then some. Some in collections.
It seems such a waste to just throw them away. Is there any place that would accept them as donations or any other way of disposing of them instead of them just going into landfill ?

Put them on free cycle or similar

AnOldCynic · 23/01/2026 20:56

I want to know why…?

A local women's refuge. A web search should produce some contact details for domestic abuse services in your area and they'll be able to advise on a drop-off point and exactly what they accept. Pristine bottles of nail varnish would be very welcome in my area, but policies may differ.

Vinted if they are good brands?

I buy a lot of nail polish on there

Don't put them on Freecycle or similar - you will just encourage someone else with your tendencies (I am sorry if that's rude, or hard to hear, but it's also true, if you genuinely do have hundreds) to take on your problems.

If you are worried about the environmental impact, empty them all into one receptacle, take that to your local tip's paint management bit, and rinse out the bottles and recycle them (glass or plastic as appropriate).

Enjoy the space they leave afterwards.

If they are in date then google local beauty/hygiene banks in your area.

There's a YouTube channel called Vintage Dusties whose whole thing is vintage nail varnishes. There's definitely a market for them.

If they are decent brands and unopened sell them on eBay

Darklane · 25/01/2026 21:50

Thank you everyone. Lots of ideas there.

Many charity shops would accept them.

you can't do this - the nail polish residue is considered hazardous and will contaminate the glass recycling containers.
