Recommendations for a nice winter jumper?

Lolabear38 · 23/01/2026 15:55

I’ve had an unexpected windfall of £125 and I’ve decided I’d like to treat myself to a lovely new winter jumper. For reference, I’m 5 foot two and somewhere between a size 12 and 14. Most of my clothes come from either Tesco or Primark (both of which I love) but I’d really like to splurge and treat myself to something lovely. I doubt I’ll get pure cashmere on my budget, but possibly a cashmere blend? Or just something more luxurious than I’m used to! I would prefer a looser fit over a cropped style. Does anyone have any recommendations? Or suggestions for places where I could look? Thank you!

Neither luxury or splurge but fitting the rest of your spec, look at kit and Kaboodle

persisted · 23/01/2026 16:32

Its not cashmere, but the Jumper I bought from Community Clothing a couple of years ago is still one of my favourite things.

MadAsAMongoose · 23/01/2026 17:31

My recommendation would be to buy a few cashmere jumpers and a few cardigans and maybe a nice cashmere/wool wrap on vinted. Don't spend more than £15 on any single item. My best bargain was £6 for a pure cashmere oatmeal coloured crew neck which didn't look like it had been worn.

I have a few of these Arket alpaca blend jumpers and love them.

If I was spending £125 on a jumper I would buy this. I have the same one in a different colour and it’s my favourite jumper ever. Weirdly exactly £125 too. finisterre.com/products/womens-farne-crew-neck-knit-jumper-deep-sea

Lands End do good quality cashmere and have the sale on still, with an extra 25% off that. Code is TH9U.

muddyford · 24/01/2026 10:24

I have bought Lands End men's cashmere as the fit is better for me.

For a just about affordable heirloom, look here:

Scroll through for sale knitwear. (Everything is almost life-changingly wonderful and anything on sale is a steal.)

SometimesInTheFall2 · 24/01/2026 13:31

Not cashmere but Genevieve Sweeney has a sale on (you'd also get 10% off for a first order) and does the most beautiful and softest knitwear.

PurpleCoo · 24/01/2026 15:00

Are you wanting something smarter or more casual?

I love merino wool and they have some lovely long slouchy jumpers at Sherpa Adventure. I bought another in a different colour because it's just so cost and nice. Seasalt do nice merino wool jumpers too. I also have merino base and mid layers for hiking. It regulated your temperature so you don't overheat in them

Yiayoula · 24/01/2026 15:14

May not be your cup of tea, but my dream jumper is this Alpine Sweater from Eribé.
Lots of colourways, this one is 96% merino wool and 4% angora.
They do a shorter length version in lambs wool.
Currently 10% off on their website.

I love distressed, differently tailored, draped, weird clothing in general….but this company? No way would I describe as heirlooms, most look not very well made and at worst, are hideous… How did you come across this site Tocsin?

SurferRona · 24/01/2026 18:25

OP, I have fallen hard for halo or brushed cashmere this year - jigsaw have in their sale (John Lewis sells too I think) and they are so lovely and luxurious, a step up on bog standard cashmere and wool!

I'm a big fan of a small, women-owned, British brand called Fuchsia Shaw and have a lot of stuff from them which is all lovely.

They have a small selection of knitwear. I have the Wynn crew neck in Forest and have worn it a lot. It's very well made, stylish and totally non itchy! I really want the brown roll neck but I don't need any more jumpers.

Do people actually buy things like this? I can think of a number of descriptions for it, but ‘Life changingly wonderful’ isn’t one of them.

I have a couple of things from them and I confirm that they are extremely well made and the quality is very good. The knitwear is made in Scotland - my La Fetiche jumper and tank are made by Harley of Scotland - I can tell because I have other HoS knitwear made for other retailers and their hallmarks are all there. I understand that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I think it’s difficult to assess the quality by just looking at things online.

I second another PP and recommend the Farne jumper from Finisterre. I have the dusty pink one and it’s well-made, not too long, not too short (56 cm long in size 6) and pure wool. I avoid plastic in clothes for health and environmental reasons. My Farne has beautiful neps in contrasting colours. I can take a close up photo of the knit if you want OP.

It made me think of something someone made on a TV competition - someone who'd never sewn/knitted before and who had no artistic bent.

Did you see there was a (ok, rather cute!) cropped cardie and jumper on there for £1600.00?!!!!! It’s wool, but how on earth can anyone justify that cost? Loro Piana very chunky full cashmere oversized cabley jumper was considerably less than that! Last jumper I bought new was from Toast, was a hand spun, hand knitted, home dyed, made by a Uruguayan women’s collective (really) which I thought was eye watering at £400. But great provenance and you pay for those values. How on earth can a cardie be worth £1600.00 😂. Fleeces, even Shetland sheep fleeces, are still inexpensive!

SurferRona · 24/01/2026 20:33

(Also, this is shallow but I loathe lazy wordplay too. LaFetiche 🙄). Many Mumsnet usernames are infinitely wittier.
