Machine washable bra recommendations

Just been on marks and Spencer website looking for a new bra. The key filter I wanted to use was machine washable but no filter for this. I looked at a few and they were handwash only. Looked at other sites, still no machine washable filter. Recommendations welcomed. ☺️ Please.

Almost no bras are going to say they are machine washable. If an underwire comes loose in the machine they can cause mechanical issues. So manufacturers aren’t keen to write it on the care label. But most bras will survive machine washing at 30’c. A mesh bag is a good idea to help prevent the hooks and eyes nicking other clothing items. Don’t wash them hot and don’t put them in the dryer or the heat will kill the elastic.

I have always machine washed my bras regardless, it genuinely was news to me when realised were supposed to hand wash 😂🤷‍♀️ As others said, use a mesh bag if you want, ensure bra is clasped together when you put it in, not too hot a wash (30/40) and just air dry.

Survival of the fittest in my house/ washing machine. All my bras go in the machine and seem to do ok.

Christwosheds · 23/01/2026 11:53

I also machine wash mine. Delicates cycle, sometimes in a bag. Air dry. Have done this for decades with no issues.

RedRiverShore6 · 23/01/2026 11:55

I machine wash all mine at 40, I sometimes use a mesh bag to stop it catching on other things, depends what else it's in with

Thankyou everyone. Just had a few ruined recently, maybe it’s the tshirt design I always buy. I will buy a different design this time….

Agreed, always washed bras in the machine (including M&S). I’ve always used a delicates/bra mesh bag so it stops the underwire getting misshaped as I wear a ridiculous size. Have never once had a problem. Mesh bags go on for years and years (currently have at least one that 15 plus years old) so not an expensive investment.

Yes, I have had this problem with M&S T shirt bras. I find the edge of them becomes thick and I don’t want a ridge when wearing a bra. I now go for their completely unpadded bras. As with PPs, I wash on delicate 30c and air dry.

This is the problem I have had, I like the padded ones to hide my nipples. Lol. I have ordered a different type so fingers crossed.

All wired bras are ‘hand wash only’. I just put them individually in a net bag and use the hand wash/wool/gentle setting on your machine, all fine!

Lifejigsaw · 25/01/2026 21:54

Sorry, when I posted it said there were no replies! Not sure you needed me repeat 😂

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 25/01/2026 21:55

Always wash mine in the machine. Never had an issue.

petitpasta · 25/01/2026 22:06

Cautionary tale. I washed bras for years in a mesh bag in the washing machine. Then one managed to break free from the bag. The bra's wire lodged in the drum and managed to buckle the drum and gouge the door seal on a one year old washing machine. Cost of new drum and door seal £450. Ended up buying a new machine as it wasn't much more expensive.

I now have a small bowl in the bathroom and I hand wash my bras when I have 2 or 3 to do and drip dry them in the shower overnight.

Not worth the risk in my experience.

I machine wash mine, no problems so far and I’m nearly 60! I’m just finding wired bras increasing uncomfortable so ivf just bought this one from Amazon, I have to say it’s very good, no wires, no mono boob, lifts and it’s machine washable! It also looks really nice on.

I've got t shirt bras from brastop online and they manage being washed on 40 no problems

pimplebum · 26/01/2026 08:13

Never hand washed anything

maybe one day I will have a rigby and peller bra set but the maid will be hand washing it … until then …

Keysfound · 05/02/2026 19:23

I had Calvin klein tshirt bras over the years, but can’t seem to get the right fit with them now. Thanks for everyone’s suggestions

I never hand wash anything, bras included. Never had a bra issue in 40 years of machine washing them.

AzureRose · 05/02/2026 19:27

I machine wash all my bras except very delicate or expensive ones.

Fold them in half and put them in one of these so they dont get mangled on the spin cycle.
