Anyone have experience of keratosis pilaris on the face?

I think I might have cracked my DD's acne that has been persistent since puberty 8 years ago.

It fits the images and description of keratosis pilaris. This is not something I had ever heard of.

Does anyone else have experience of this?

No that's not my DD's photo nor a photo of a face. When you search for images of KP on the face, it looks like that. She also has it on her legs and it looks more traditionally like the chicken skin appearance. That's why I think it is that. And all acne treatments have had little impact. Even antibiotics which most people find works at least when they are taking them.

I'd add my name to the list of people suggesting you see a dermatologist.

I've never seen KP on the face although of course it's pretty common on limbs.

I have seen adenoma sebaceum misdiagnosed as facial acne. If you Google that, op, does it look like your DDs skin?

If there's a possibility of that then you definitely want to get a definitive diagnosis as it wouldn't just be a cosmetic issue - the underlying problem would need checking further.

Thank you. It doesn't look anything like the photos I am turning up for adenoma sebaceum, but I appreciate the suggestions. I think a dermatologist is the right call. How do I go about finding a decent private one?

When I took my daughter, I contacted my local Bupa hospital, they had a dermatologist there, she was excellent - we’re near the Buoa hospital in Bushey, Herts.

Op, ignore everything I said earlier, I am an idiot. I have SK, seborrheic keratosis, nothing like your DD. No idea why I mixed them up, I am so sorry.

Could it be perioral dermatitis? This can be quite widespread and has spots very similar to KP.
If she has ever used any topical steroids this would increase the likelihood as can contribute to it, also worth checking for products containing SLS (including toothpaste)
it can be treated with 4-8 weeks of low dose antibiotics (tetracycline) and stripping back skincare to repair skin barrier.

Ah, thank you for coming back. No worries. Good to know these things anyway.

It definitely can be on the face but if that is the only place it is that would be unusual. Is she getting enough vitamin A in her diet? Don't supplement vitamin A as that can cause overdose but check she has enough vitamin A containing foods. For some people vit A deficiency can worsen it.

No,I think she has the more classic presentation on her legs.

Did it work for you? There seems to be so little research.

Honestly? I'm so crap at remembering to take supplements consistently that I haven't managed to give it enough time to say one way or another!
