Trainers that are comfortable but look really nice (not running shoesy)

I'm struggling to choose - what is good?

I'd like something that's almost a going out trainer.

What’s your budget? I live in trainers these days! I love Veja for every day, but also partial to Zadig & Voltaire and Jimmy Choo but they’re rather more expensive ! Axel Arigato have some nice designs but I don’t find the shape as comfortable.

Pavementworrier · 16/01/2026 10:12

Absolutely maximum budget £200 but I'd prefer less!

Well the sun is past the yardarm somewhere I suppose!

What does that mean?

What does that mean?

Those trainers sound like "geez wine" as in "please give me some wine".

Sorry it's still early and I haven't had my coffee (never mind wine).

Ah ok. They are an Austrian brand. Pretty good quality.
They have more sporty looking ones, but also wool, leather or eco ones where the shoe and soles are all the same colour so they can look fairly ‘smart’ ( well for a trainer).

I wear an eco khaki pair in summer and they look ok with skirts ( I swap out the laces for hidden slip on variety) and I have the all
black wool which look nice with black jeans - im probably not the most fashionable person though so depends what’s ’fashion’ to you

Onitsuka tiger, they are more delicate looking, great arch support that’s hidden, very neat. And rhe comfiest shoes I’ve ever worn.

Love these!!! So I guess the soles are thick enough for walking a lot?

No the soles are very thin, a bit like converse trainers…
for lots of walking id look towards nike or adidas

Georgiemc · 16/01/2026 21:16

Salomon XT6

can you define lots of walking, for lots of walking you need proper trainers, mote typically running shoe type, but you said in your op you didn’t want that .

they aren’t like converse though, converse are very flat with a thin sole, I can’t wear them. these have hidden support in side so are very comfy . I’d say they feel like lower profile sketchers on.

so I walk a lot for example I travel and constantly through Heathrow, they are fine for that, but if you mean walking miles a day, then I’d think running shoes.

Idk 30k steps a day?

I usually wear new balance but id like to branch out

I’ve tried to add a line showing the hidden support. But again, if you’re walking miles a day I’d really recommend the more running type sturdy type

im not very good at drawing on iPad but it feels like a memory foam that then has a raised arch part.

I think for thst you’d need something like you have, although to be fair these are the original running shoes makers, renowned for it, who branched out.

but no, if you’re looking for shoes to walk an average 5 miles a day every day I’d not suggest these,

I find the soles on those completely rigid and really uncomfortable

Following with interest. Sorry to hijack the thread, but wondered if anyone can recommend some great looking trainers that are good with plantar fasciitis? I have some insoles, those half ones, bought on amazon. They kind of help a bit. I've been wearing skecher but I hate the way they look. I walk about 5 miles a day 3 days a week.

Onefortheroad25 · 16/01/2026 21:54

I love Adidas Bold gazelles with the thick sole. I have 2 pairs and they are so comfy.
I like Veja too but they didn’t age well at all.
