dd is 14 and has developed a dark upper lip line that looks moustache lie. She is not happy, understandably. I'm fair so no idea how to tackle this. Waxing or threading. I guess user treatment has an age limit? Please help.

I bought a facial epilator from Amazon which 13 y/o uses at home. Works the same as threading and very effective.

Strangesally20 · 13/01/2026 20:56

I’ve used hair removal cream on my top lip since I was a teen (over 20 years!) never had an issue, I’ve tried waxing but get bumps so went back to veet. Once a week does it.

I got a gadget from Asda, possibly JML.
It's a small shaver I think, cuts close to the skin.
I used it before laser hair removal. Didn't seem to make it grow coarse unlike my DH mach 3

Sorry for the bad spelling, not sure what happened there.

Hair removal cream. It’s simple, quick and pain free.

VeraVolvo · 14/01/2026 09:49

I’m still undecided whether to take her to get it waxed or manage it at home. I know this may sound silly but I worry that waxing her upper lip could irritate her skin or leave a mark.

Please for the love of all that's holy patch test hair removal cream before using it on her face.

Take it from someone whose nickname was The Red Nazi for a good chunk of highschool thanks to the bright red moustache-like sore I got under my nose from hair removal cream 🥲

Mischance · 14/01/2026 09:54

I have a little battery gadget that whizzes round and pulls them out.

We have the latest version of the Braun facial epilator mentioned above. I really wouldn’t shave it - not advised so young and may lead to stubble.

It is momentarily painful and red for a about 20 mins but then fine! Waxing is expensive and more painful ime

I’d patch test whatever method you decide on. Anything that pulls it out by the root gives me an awful red, painful, pimply rash that lingers for ages.

I have the Braun shaver pictured above, but don’t think that’s the best option here.

SatansRubberDuck · 15/01/2026 08:37

I used hair lightening cream from that age and found it worked - could that be an option? Again, you'd need to patch test, but I found it was pain-free and didnt result in redness.

Its usually fine many girls and women get their faces waxed with no issues. What does she want to do ?

Kyogo67 · 15/01/2026 08:42

JML flawless is best thing

Coffeeishot · 15/01/2026 08:42

If you buy one of those shavers she can do it at home,

Mischance · 15/01/2026 09:02

The little epilators are best. Shaving creates stubble ... the last thing she wants.
I used to bleach mine.

Can you say which removal cream you use , is there a gentle facial one or do you use the normal body one .

ive used both. I used to use a little nair one that came in a small bottle with a brush that was specifically for face. I just use a normal leg and body one now, I’ve had no issues with either but definitely find the body one stronger, it’s fine for me, I don’t have particularly sensitive skin though. If using for the first time I would try the facial one and do a patch test.
