When do you give up on clothes you don’t fit into any more?

I’ve been holding onto some lovely clothes that I’m too overweight to wear. I’m not huge by any means but they definitely don’t fit.

There’s a good chance I’ll lose some weight, and am taking steps in that direction but I’m 50 and doubt I’ll ever get totally back to my old weight. Or can I?

And how long should i hold onto them for?

What do you do about weight gain and clothes?

(DP and I have different opinions so I’m interested in what other people think!)

WW, using the app, will power and moving more. You just have to be in the right headspace. For years & years I wasn’t. Good luck!

I had some saved skinny clothes set aside for years making me feel like a failure for not fitting into them yet... but then one day I realised my style taste has changed that I wouldn't want to wear them anyway so I got rid of them.
I do have a couple of items that are too small but I'm keeping because they bring me happy memories and they are a classic that I could wear again at any age (eg a blouse).
So ask yourself if you even like these clothes anymore and would realistically wear them in 2026, sizing aside.

Yes I absolutely understand the head space thing. I wish I could get into it myself.

I gave up on some of my old clothes last year and got rid. Aaand then I lost weight and had to buy new. I’m 47 so had also thought I wouldn’t get back to where I was before as it has been a good few years. In simple terms, I did it just by moving more and eating less but I’m not sure I can pinpoint what triggered the change in behaviour.
