Me and DP have been together since we were quite young and after buying our first house last year he is finally in the position to buy me an engagement ring. We have been together a long time so I’m not bothered about a big proposal, we know getting married is the next step so this is just a formalisation of this, and a chance for me to get a lovely ring!

Over the years I has tried on a couple of more classic rings but I always come back to a website I stumbled across a few years ago, the problem is this jewellers is out of budget! I really love a lot of the rings particularly the art defo style ones https://jessicaflinn.co.uk/collections/engagement-rings

So I was wondering if anyone is able to recommend jewellers who sell similar, either new with lab grown diamonds (although I haven’t ruled out a colour stone) or also happy with second hand.

We are near Preston, and an hour from both Manchester/Liverpool so looking for places within the Lancashire/manchester/Liverpool areas that we can travel there and back in a day. Budget is £1-1.5k absolute max.

Hopefully that is everything but really appreciate any suggestions.

Maejean Vintage – MJV https://share.google/uQQ7EbZyXXI67YZs5
Try Maejean Vintage, a company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, US, that sells vintage jewellery and ships internationally.

Art deco is one of the styles they specialise in.

I have an Art Nouveau 1910 platinum filigree diamond engagement ring that cost £500 about 12 years ago in an antique store. Genuine vintage is so much better!

indigoemerald · 11/01/2026 21:08

I came on here to suggest Jessica Flinn 😂 I got my wedding band from them, and have my eye on some of their other rings for if I ever win the lottery…

I agree that Aardvark in Birmingham may fit the bill. I’ve got some of their rings on my lottery wishlist too, and one of my friends did get her engagement ring from them and said the service was really good.

I quite like this one and it’s within the OP’s budget.

Fusion in Skipton, just across the Lancashire border has an excellent range of second hand beautiful unusual rings. My engagement ring came from there it’s a sapphire stone surrounded by marquis and barrel cut diamonds in an arrangement very art deco and something I’ve never seen anywhere else. Now my ring was above your budget but they have a range of rings at various prices. They do have a website. Best of luck, exciting times! X

Have you tried Brilliant Earth?
Their selling point is that they have ethical gemstones by getting them manufactured in a lab that means they aren’t from conflict zones. It also means they are a lot cheaper. They do a lot of customisation.

I saw this recently and it reminded me of one of the rings you posted.Just sharing in case it helps: Ring

It's maybe a bit far but Glasgow has a wonderful old arcade with lots of jewellers including at least a couple who sell a lot of vintage. Look out for McGowans Jewellers and Mr Harold and Son.

I have also heard good things about Cavendish's in York which someone posted about upthread. I found this little beauty on their website: https://www.cavendishjewellers.co.uk/rings-c95/antique-art-deco-white-gold-diamond-solitaire-ring-p18790

I expect there will be other jewellers specialising in vintage jewellery in York

Another suggestion would be gems and jewels in Birmingham - they have some stunning sapphire pieces and do bespoke work

Gorgeous! Is the centre stone an aquamarine? It is absolutely beautiful. Huge congratulations!

Ahh it’s actually a trip to Bygone Times a few weeks ago that got me wanting to get a ring sorted Grin we went for furniture and didn’t realise they had jewellery, they had some gorgeous rings but all the wrong size / out of budget but it’s somewhere we will keep going back to if no success elsewhere!

Easy to get a ring resized!

We use Carrs in Garstang for that.

NormasArse · 14/03/2026 05:20

Sorry- I’ve just seen your update. That’s gorgeous!!

Cyclingmummy1 · 14/03/2026 07:33

That's lovely! Congratulations 💐

Just wanted to add that finding a local (or not so local) jewellery designer is a great idea. I'm turning some jewellery of DM's into something I'll wear, rather than it sitting in a box. It's taking a bit longer than I expected as the designer has been ill but the first appointment was lovely and I'm looking forward to seeing the mock ups in a couple of weeks.

Yes it makes such a difference going local / small rather than high street
