Help me find some widish, low heel shoes I can walk and drive in - this shouldn't be so hard

This shouldn't be too much of a challenge but somehow I can't find anything suitable and am wearing shoes I've had over a decade.

I don't need anything fashionable, but not trainers or Sketchers. Just need, wide fitting, low heel and can easily be slipped on and off easily

Recently spent over an hour in a shoe shop trying on practically everything and nothing felt comfortable. I can't order online as know nothing would fit. I've become quite defeatist about this feeling I'll never find new shoes.

There's nothing odd about my feet, fairly standard size and wideish.

Anyone else have this problem or can suggest bands I can try?

How old are you? I have wide feet and generally shop from Clarkes or Van Dal and get wide fit shoes. I like loafers which I get from there. Also fatties from Van Dal. I bought some of these recently in black and latter. Wide fit and flat. They look nice on and are good for work. You can also get brand new wide fit shoes much cheaper from Ebay if you type in wide fit and your size.

Try Hotter. They've got me through 15 years of teaching!

M&S and Next both do wide fit

M&S and Next both do wide fit

Yes but the OP doesn't want to buy online and the wide fit options are never in the shops.

If something isn’t in the shops, on line becomes the only option. I’ve got wide feet and decent shoes cost money! Sargasso and Grey, Sole Bliss and Clark’s are worth a look. Peter Kaiser have a few and M&S but they have drastically reduced what they offer, unfortunately.

OhDear111 · 08/01/2026 08:25

Dune are ok too.

I have wide feet and need arch support, I live in Birkenstock clogs (sadly none of the lookalike versions are as supportive IME). They are SO comfy I have literally worn nothing else this winter unless out on muddy walks. Sizewise I drop down for Birkenstocks, I'm normally a 39 but 38 for these (and the sandals). Normal fit not narrow.

Gabor are good for wide feet

This! I have wide size 8 feet and they're great.

(Also, nice see Van Dal are still going. When had a 'smart' job, these were my go-to brand.)

CointreauVersial · 08/01/2026 09:31

A recent discovery was Fit Flop (and not just the flip-flops/sandals - they do all sorts). I bought THE most comfortable mary-janes last summer, and have lived in them ever since.

Ditto to this. I know it’s the ‘granny’ shoe shop, but they do have some non old-granny*. styles. Returns are easy if you need to.

Last year I bought some supremely comfortable leather ankle boots from them, which to me don’t look granny-ish at all. I’ve worn them so much and they recently kept my feet dry in seriously torrential rain.

And BTW before anyone accuses me of being ageist, I am a granny, so I’m allowed to use such terms!

I have wide and troublesome feet and Pavers are my go-to place. They do have actual shops, though not many (my local one closed down last year🙁), but online is also good for returns if they don’t fit.

Hush Puppies might suit.. very comfy

Fit Flops are my go to as well, my feet are wide and I find it hard to find comfortable shoes but every pair of Fit Flops have been comfortable straight out of the box.

Buggabootwo · 08/01/2026 21:51

Ah, you seek the holy grail……. I’d suggest Gabor too. I have had a lot of joy with Pikolinos but have mostly only been able to buy online and returns are a gigantic arseache. If you can find them in store anywhere and figure out your size and fit, they are worth buying. I originally found them in an independent shoe shop in a posh tourist town.

Puddingpiper · 08/01/2026 21:55

Hotter or pavers are my go to for walking and/or on my feet all day options
