Hi everyone

My daughter is graduation in a week and we still have not found a dress for her. So please could you help with suggestions:

here is the low down:

size 4 or 6 UK
height 5’1’. So petit dress required
no sequins
nothing that looks like office wear
no large patterns or flowers
tight fitted
sophisticated style
modest (no plugging neckline).
sleeveless or with sleeves (not strapless or straps)
her sash will be lilac
budget £100 max
i am grateful for all suggestions.

thank you

I agree with the posters saying a blouse and skirt will look old fashioned, most women now wear dresses. Also, you no longer need a button to secure the hood, the gown companies now have a funky Velcro system to keep everything in place, so your DD can wear a fabulous dress without worrying about that. Hope she has a wonderful day!

I’m fascinated by the importance of wearing clothes that don’t date under your all-obscuring gown. Why is not looking like you graduated in the year you did important?

You must never have seen grad pics from the 1970s.

These photos are displayed on relatives walls and will be there forever. You have to see that image every time you visit that relative.

I’ve not RTFT but my only advice would be to try and get a dress that is shorter than the gown, at my graduation people who had longer dresses didn’t like the way they looked under the gown.

So what? It‘s who you were in the 70s. Mine is mid-90s and I looked great. (Being 21 at the time helped!)
