Over the last few months and by a process of being brainwashed by cunningly placed social media ads, seeing the things on rails in museum gift shops and local boutiques, and spotting the historian Ruth Goodman in one, I've become convinced that I really need a One Hundred Stars short kimono jacket. (I don't. I'm not a stylish dresser. I have exactly two dresses I'd wear this with, and the wafty wide sleeves won't fit into my leather jacket.) I have this idea that it'll be a bit transformative for me and I like the Primula (black) and Crane (greens on black, or plum) ones a lot. I thought they'd make me wear my boring black Wool& dress more and make it less boring.
I wanted the version in 100% wool (I like wool) rather than the wispy viscose or the slightly more robust crepe fabrics. But - having done a quick search for MN threads on these, I gather that quality has plummeted in recent years. I spent about an hour searching the internet for independent boutiques that have the wool ones reduced in their January sales and the cheapest I can find is about £52 (they retail at £75 on the OHS site). Which is not bad, but are they even worth that? Is the wool fabric warmish, nicely made and finished, soft? Is it basically a thin woven wool scarf material (like the Seasalt fine wool scarves, eg)?
Would love any insights into the wool kimono versions if anyone has one. I'm basically trying to convince myself I really don't need one!
