Day cream for really dry skin not HA

Anyone recommend a day moisturiser for incredibly dry skin that is not hyaluronic acid based, please? I hate HA, it dries me out (even when applied to damp skin) and I hate geIs as they're not heavy duty enough. I need a thick day cream which sinks in quickly. I use weleda skin food every night for my night cream (that should indicate how dry I am!). I do like the EL youth power creme but it is so brutally expensive and doesn't last long. Skin is relatively sensitive but not too bad.

La Roche Posay Lipikar. It’s body lotion but facial quality, and recommended by our dermatologist when DD had eczema as a baby.

I have super dry skin which gets worse in winter. Rosewater and Glycerin followed by Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising lotion is fantastic.

Thanks. I should say I do need to wear makeup over the top so am presuming lipikar will be too heavy? Otherwise I would just wear my skin food all the time!

@TeaRoseTallulah where do you get your rosewater and glycerin? And do you think it makes a real difference?

Yes, a huge difference and I've only been using it a short while. Someone on another thread mentioned the old discontinued rosewater and glycerin from The Body Shop and I remembered I used to use it. I found similar on Amazon for pennies. I'll find the link. It's amazing stuff.

I find HA dries me out like a prune. I use Dr Organic (Holland and Barrett) vitamin c facial oil followed by Aveeno calm and restore oat rich balm. Elf halo glow over that.

Evening Primrose oil supplement helps, and bone broth.

I agree. Have tried so many different options and can't get my head around why some people think it's the holy grail!

I don't like HA either, useless on my skin.

Boots version is fantastic and around £2.50

Cera ve has been a bit of a game changer here. I have psoriasis, so it has to be good.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 29/12/2025 21:05

As I have sensitive skin, I was advised to use scent-free and lanolin-free moisturisers only.

Catwoman8 · 29/12/2025 21:14

I hate HA too, whenever I use it under a foundation or cream it just makes my skin pile, it never seems to sink into my skin.

I have recently starting using one from Medik8 and I love how it feels on my skin , it is a thick cream that melts into my skin without looking greasy.

I swear by la Roche posay cicaplast baume

Liz Earle Super skin is fantastic for dry skin, especially in winter. It has two versions - unfragranced for sensitive skin and a neroli one which is yummy. :)
