Self care tips please!

As the title says. I’m looking for ways to include more self care into my daily schedule. I’m 53, I shower daily, wash my hair about 4 times a week, have a bath whenever I feel like it. File my nails, soak my feet, trim and paint my toenails once a month. Remove make up every day, I only use eyeliner, concealer and mascara, use spf moisturiser on my face every morning and evening, epilate legs whenever they need doing, armpits stopped growing hair after breast cancer treatment. I know I should use body lotions and I love buying body lotions, hydration oil sprays, body butters, but I just never seem to have time to use them. They need time to soak in otherwise they stick to my clothes or bedding. I want luscious limbs in the summer, I hide my legs away in the summer as they’re dry and in poor condition, but when is the best time to use body products and what types do you use?

I know what you mean about body lotion but I can’t recommend Cetaphil enough - I’m like a scaly crocodile without it. Apparently it’s best to apply it at night as it seeps in when you’re asleep, or something much more scientific than that!

My favourite body lotion is the Rituals mousse lotion. It comes out a lot like shaving foam but sinks in straight away and I find I can get into clothes or pyjamas immediately. I use it after every bath or shower without fail.

I also use a shower puff to wash my body with as it is slightly exfoliating. Just rinse it well and hang it on a hook in the shower to dry out so it doesn't go manky. Those two little habits mean I never have dry skin.

I am the same .. 61 and was looking at my arms yesterday thinking oh no!

Not shower-related, but a good, claggy 50 SPF sunscreen - no particular brand, works miracles. Sadly, the clagginess is on the decline, probably because it takes so long to rub in.

Thanks for your comments everyone 😊 I’ve made a start and sorted out all my lotions and potions in the bathroom cupboard, threw out some old stuff and things I’m not likely to use. I’m quite strict on moisturising my face twice a day so I just need to get into the habit on the rest of me 😘

Yes, it just sounds like you need to give yourself an extra 5 minutes to moisturise your body. Your routine already sounds great.

Just to add, I've ran out of body lotion, so I've recently been using up some baby oil. I literally finish my shower, rub it in all over my wet body and then dry myself. It's surprisingly unsticky and I can dress right away. Could be good if you don't have much time? I like the lavender sleep one.

I love my sugar scrub from Boots - use it one a week during my shower and it makes my skin feels so soft afterwards.

Regular exfoliation does help. Some body scrubs have nourishing ingredients so your skin feels soft and healthy afterwards.
I only use body creams or oils at night because I don't have time in the morning and I worry about clothes getting stained.
I'm not fussed about bedding. In fact, the night before I change bedding I go to sleep looking and feeling like a seal with so many intensive lotions/ overnight masks / hair oil and all that malarkey. My poor DH. He used to travel a lot and wouldn't know about my night time routines. He just has to accept it as part of life nowadays.
