Everyday does everything wear

Help!

I love clothes and like to think I have a style but am struggling with things I can wear everyday that cover office, school run, dog walk and kids after school sports watching that look smart and can just have thick socks, wellies, bobble hats etc added on top to work for the outside bits!

I have one pair of dark skinny jeans that I dont love that much and that's it! The wide legs jeans I have look awful with my wellies for walks and sports. I haven't done leggings since pregnancy (over a decade ago).

Does anyone manage this?! TIA

I don’t think you can have something that fits all of those occasions.

sciaticafanatica · 28/12/2025 15:19

There is no such thing that covers everything

NovemberNoExcuses · 28/12/2025 15:24

Dress and tights?

  • blazer and leather boots or shoes for office
  • biker jacket or warm coat and chunky flat bike boots for school run/watching sports etc
  • warm coat wellies and welly socks for walks

plain one colour jumper dress above the knee length with opaque black tights would be my winter choice (black/grey/navy/plum), or maybe a suede/leather look tunic style dress over a plain long sleeve T

Comefromaway · 28/12/2025 15:33

My black straight leg jeans would fit the bill.

I dress them up with a fitted top or blouse & belt & loafers. Sometimes a blazer.
dress them down with a t shirt or ribbed jumper & boots.

HouseWithASeaView · 28/12/2025 15:44

What’s the dress code for your office? Life has got easier for me since I stopped having to dress smartly for work. Now I can get away with wide leg jeans & a smart top or a maxi skirt or denim dress, then, provided I accept I’ll be slightly over dressed for some things, that’s pretty much what I wear. Some times I will do a quick change of top in the loo or car park (if wearing something underneath!)

TheRavenKingsDaughter · 28/12/2025 15:50

Why, @Shambles123?

There’s so much joy and freedom in the ultra-scruffy clothes one might throw on for a rainy dog walk. And so much pride and satisfaction in looking immaculate at work. Why would you want to compromise either of those states by wearing the same clothes for both?

LucyMonth · 28/12/2025 19:09

You need to get rid of the wellies and instead opt for “nice” walking boots such as the ones from Teva.

Get rid of the skinny jeans. Hugely dated.

Also just change after work for the dogs walking and kids sports. No is walking their dog in their office clothes.

Shambles123 · 29/12/2025 07:24

I walk dog in office clothes and changing is adding more stress to my life!

My typical day
Is one or two school runs for the dc, just car drop offs
Office
1hr 15mins lunch break to include getting home, walking dog for 40 mins and getting back
Office
School run involving seeing other mums
Quick tea/large snack effort
Hanging round stables or football pitches for 1-2 hours
Home, food at 19.30-20.00. Wine. TV.

Thank you! I have tried this but found my legs were too cold at the hobbies watching bit! I might look at those fluffy tights options (Or thin leggings?). Adding bulk to my legs feels v odd though!

The Halara cords might work for everything. Comfy like joggers, warm, can dress up or down.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 29/12/2025 09:00

I know what you mean OP. For the past few weeks I've been living in black or burgundy jean style M&S jeggings with flat black knee high boots. Most days I'm wearing thermal/temp control socks with them. On top a temp control vest and a cashmere roll neck sweater (I have a black, and an oatmeal one). In work I wear either a black velvet blazer or an oversized tweed blazer if needed, for dog walking/supermarket etc I wear an aviator style borg lined jacket in grey that I found in Next, or the Mango Adriana faux shearling jacket.

Walking boots and wider leg jeans and the mud is a disaster though. I go back to the office with mud splats!

The Halara cords look nice but same issue - mud splats or pantaloon look in my wellies.

I think I need to revisit leggings but with longer tops and coats. I need new clothes essentially which isn't perfect just after Xmas!

I would also love a "covers everything", weekday uniform of sorts. Not so much the country walks, but definitely the school run and office.

I have the added complication that my tummy size changes a lot with hormones and ibs 😒. I get really bloated. So tight waistbands are out really.

My thoughts are:

  • a not too body hugging dress over thick tights and boots

Or

  • ponte type tapered / skinny trousers with a blouse / top and jacket / cardi, and whatever footwear suits the occasion

I am quite over wide leg trousers now and recently went back to skinnier jeans. I find them a lot more practical tbh, so I'm glad they are making a bit of a comeback!

DancingPony · 29/12/2025 09:21

X posted with you op, but agree it is wide legs and mud / rain which are a disaster. I have only been getting one wear out of my wide leg trousers as they can't be worn after dragging in puddles. I am over them...for now

TheOGCCL · 29/12/2025 09:57

I can wear most of my wardrobe anywhere, just wouldn't wear paler denim to the office. I wear these trousers a lot in the cooler months. Don't have anything else from Seasalt but find these very versatile.

Can you swap your smarter work wear trousers or skirts with leggings for the dog walks and after school hobbies ?
Layered tops you can add to for walks or take off for work
Maybe look on insta nice for inspiration ?

Shambles123 · 29/12/2025 14:09

Yes! I think I need some good grown up leggings recommendations - anyone have any?!

Updated to say:

SPANX leggings are amazing!

Have a couple of slightly longer jumpers Im wearing on repeat. Got some cheap boots in ASOS sale. Not totally nailed it yet but am changing less and clothes are not a bother currently.

mcmuffin22 · 22/01/2026 14:37

I don't think you could wear leggings to an office could you? When I used to do similar I used to go for an above the knee skirt or dress, thermal tights in winter and knee high boots for office and high wellies with liners for dog walks. With a long puffer you should be completely covered.

Shambles123 · 22/01/2026 14:42

It's not a very formal office, Im doing leggings (good quality), knee high riding style boots and longer nice jumper. Just can't find many of the jumpers!

@Shambles123 what is the sizing like on Spanx leggings please? And which ones did you buy? I'm very tempted for the convenience you describe

Shambles123 · 22/01/2026 14:49

I got these ones:

SPANX Leggings for Women Look at Me Now Seamless Leggings

I got a size L - I am normally a 10 in most shops, 10st and 5ft 6 and L is fine, could probably have got away with an M but L is working fine!

ImwaitingforMadeleine · 22/01/2026 15:12

wow, a small fit then if you're a 10. I'm glad I checked.
