Body moisturiser for really dry skin

My skin is insanely dry. Any kind of contact, rubbing or friction causes redness, looking almost inflamed. I just had to take my socks off because the rubbing around the ankles was painful. Tops have to have loose sleeves or I’ll be all sore around the wrist. Yesterday I had a short sleeved top on and I now have red marks on my shoulders and underarms, where the edge was rubbing.
I don’t have any skin condition, as far as I’m aware. The dryness always gets a bit worse during winter but this year it’s worse than ever.
Any recommendations for body oil/ moisturiser/ butter? I’ve tried most of the mid-range stuff available in high street shops. Looking something better now but I’m reluctant to spend more than £20-£30 on magic potions without a solid recommendation.

Hydramol ointment (definitely ointment not cream ) you can get it on Amazon. I use it on my dry itchy skin - you can use it on any part of your body.

Garnier in the red bottle really works for me

bloodredfeaturewall · 26/12/2025 21:35

nivea in the blue bottle

Cerave is really good as is the boots own equivalent.

I have very eczema prone skin and use epiderm as it’s not perfumed and doesn’t sting. However, to help prevent (or reduce) the dryness I have found that using a shower oil made a huge difference. I use the L’Occitane almond one 😊

Palmers cocoa butter. Not the lotion (although that is good too) but the solid stuff in the tub. IMO the best thing for super dry skin. However, it is greasy so I'd recommend putting it on before bed rather than in the morning.

Also consider your shower gel, shampoo etc if that is also causing you issues. Might help to switch to something very gentle/unscented until your skin recovers a bit.

Do you use shower gel? I found switching from any liquid gels/soaps to a solid goats milk soap made an enormous difference, my skin wasn’t as dry as yours, but I went from fairly dry skin to barely ever needing moisturiser.

Not what you asked but I started taking udos choice oil capsules a couple of months ago and it's made a huge difference to my skin.

Body shop Shea body butter

SleafordSods · 26/12/2025 22:46

Having a bath with Dead Sea Salt added before adding body lotion really helps too.

Glennponder · 26/12/2025 22:52

Eucerin urea lotion

I’ve tried bepanthen (the nappy rash cream) on my face for insanely dry and sensitive skin. It’s helped a little. Certainly more than EVERYTHING else I’ve tried.

Salcura is brilliant - Bioskin range

Nivea Creme in the blue tub, I swear by it.
