Sagging skin above my eye lids.

spongebunnyfatpants · 26/12/2025 13:08

My skin above me eye lids has become very saggy. So much so that it sits on my eye lids.

I can feel it all the time and its beginning to become uncomfortable.

Im 50, apart from surgery has anyone found anything that helps with this please.

Thank you.

Only surgery will help unfortunately. I had mine removed in September and love how much more awake I look. I feel it too as I don’t have the heavy feeling on my eyelids.

BG2015 · 26/12/2025 13:19

My mum is waiting for surgery for this.

TheMorgenmuffel · 26/12/2025 13:20

I've got that too. Aging is a bugger, sorry to echo the others but the only thing that cures it is surgery.

You could use tiny pieces of tape i suppose but you'd look daft 😁

Specialagentblond · 26/12/2025 13:24

Botox will lift those nicely.

BuffaloCauliflower · 26/12/2025 13:25

I’m 38 and mine are going the same way. Surgery is the only answer I’m afraid, it’s just skin losing elasticity so no other way to tighten/lift

How? Botox freezes it can’t lift or remove loose skin

Do you mind me asking how much the surgery was? I think it’s in my future too. How was your recovery?

My mum is waiting for surgery for this.

privately? Or NHS?

FiloPasty · 26/12/2025 13:29

You can buy some tape on Amazon that does help with how it looks. Eyelid tape for hooded eyes will bring them up.

im also tempted with surgery

BG2015 · 26/12/2025 13:35

NHS.
Shes on a waiting list since last week so who knows how long it will be.

Shes a very fit 80.

Specialagentblond · 26/12/2025 13:43

Botox will contract the muscles that lift the eyelid. It’s a common albeit temporary solution. I know a few people who have it for this reason.

Thanks everyone.
I'll start looking into surgery.

My mum asked her GP who said it was cosmetic and wouldn't qualify for surgery but her optician said it was bad and my mum told her it was affecting her sight and her driving so I think it was the optician who referred her.

snoopymug · 26/12/2025 14:53

My dad has had his done on the NHS. They were bad though. I have inherited this too but think I'm likely to want to get it sorted long before it would be deemed bad enough to be done on the NHS. Although when I'm tired, I find myself pushing up the skin with my hand on my face so it must be starting to impact my peripheral vision.

How.much does the Botox cost to help with this?

schmalex · 26/12/2025 19:05

Upper blepharoplasty is the best way, it's really very minor (a filling at the dentist is worse imo). You will be bruised afterwards and look a bit of a state for a week or so, but it heals very quickly.

@snoopymug I am the same. When I am tired it really bothers me and feels much heavier. I am 51.

My optician said the lid has to be occluding 50% of your eye/vision in order for it to be done on the NHS.

She also told me to hold off for as long as I can as it will return over the years and it is not so easy to re-operate in the same area.

My mum had hers done when she was 62 and now at 75 she needs to have it done again..hers also always looked really odd, it was pulled up way too tightly and she looked like she was staring all the time. So I am a bit worried about having the surgery.

LaundryHepburn · 26/12/2025 20:15

Upper bleph. I had one in May, had a week and a bit off work. There was one uncomfortable night after surgery, besides that the pain was minimal. Bruising for about a week. Couldn’t wear make up or contacts for a few weeks. It looks great now. Cost was approx. £1800 but I’m not in the UK.

spongebunnyfatpants · 26/12/2025 20:22

Thank you, ive just looked up at my local clinic and it states from £4000! So I guess I'll be waiting until I cant see and having it done on the NHS.

It was £540 as I had it done in Amsterdam. I won’t link the place I went as last time a few people thought it was an advert ( it isn’t, they’ve got a waiting list of nearly a year now so don’t need to advertise but if you do some googling you’ll find a few options overseas)

Its the best money I’ve spent in a long time!

snoopymug · 27/12/2025 10:41

@willowstar "She also told me to hold off for as long as I can as it will return over the years and it is not so easy to re-operate in the same area"

Thanks. I had wondered about that.

I noticed in goggle box Mary has these type of lids, and IMO, she looks great, so I'll try not to worry about it too much for now.

Iloveeverycat · 27/12/2025 10:56

Have you tried eye lid tape first. There is something on Amazon that has really good reviews.
