I am 6 months pg.

What the hell to wear? Will be with the corporate lot so i have to 'dress properly' I s'pose. And I have no fashion sense either.

Wear do I look for something suitable?

Do I really need a hat? (another thing to shop for. sigh)

If it helps, I am skinny but avg height/small norked. Just look like I swallowed a beach ball.

I am planning to hire an outfit from www.doesmytumlookbiginthis.com/ for a wedding next month. I don't think there's a shop near you but I think you can order online, don't know how long it'd take to get something though. They cost something like £50 to hire for a long weekend. Might be worth a look though.

oops, did the link and the "here" the wrong way round. Here it is again: www.doesmytumlookbiginthis.com/

unless it is a Ladies' Day, you don't need to be too dressy - but a dress and shoes rather than jeans and trainers iykwim.

You deffo don't need a hat (unless you really want to, that is)

If it IS Ladies' Day then you should push the boat out and be as dressed up as it is possible to be!

ok, it isn't ladies day. (phew!)

that's a start!

Would it be OTT to wear a full length dress? Or should I keep it to knee length?

and does it 'have to' be summery colours?

I have a beautiful, shimmery bronzy and gold full length frock which isn't really maternity kit but it worked out the last time I was pg. it was winter that time but will do for the average Northeast summer we are having.

will that colour do? Or do I need to find something in proper summery colours?

We went to Windsor last week. I dressed up big time. Dress, makeup, the works. Felt lovely. Most people were dressed similarly.

I like wearing hats because (i think) I look good in hats.

any hat links, LL?

will put a picture of the dress on my profile tonight to see if it will do. It will need accessorising if it passes the MN jury.

hat, shoes, shawl, baubles....

Northumberland Plate day at Newcastle is a free-for-all as far as dress code is concerned. The crowd seem to be divided between those in black and white (Geordies) and red and white (Sunderlanders). You could wear a velour tracksuit or full-on regalia complete with Gertrude Schilling-style hat, and neither would stand out. Northern meetings are far less rigid in dress code. Blimey, you should have seen them at Doncaster last Saturday. I felt as though I was crashing an immense stag/hen do. I saw everything from prom dresses to almost no dress at all, lots and lots of sunburn and was worried that should anyone light a cigarette the whole place would go up from the flammable hair gel/extensions. I may sound a bit jaded (perhaps I am) but any notions of a day at the races being a classy affair are as outdated as tripe for tea and four year olds up chimneys.

Sorry, just realised I haven't helped with your style dilemma at all. Think smart casual. Nice wedding (day) outfit should do it. Wear a hat if you like, don't if you don't and steer clear of anything that looks like eveningwear. Sparkles look naff in daylight.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 11/06/2008 13:20

Forgot to say have a great day and hope you back a winner. Who knows - it may even be one of mine!

kiskideesameanoldmother · 11/06/2008 13:22

lol grumpyhorsewoman, i can just imagine the geordies and mackems now!

But DH and I will be in some premier event shed or the other, cordoned off from the riffraff (this time)

I think the tickets were £200 each. It is a corporate 'thank you' for him and his colleagues so I have to look good next to some people I have not yet met.

Kiskideesameanoldmother,

just my 2 pennies.

think knee leangth, snugly fit dress...maybe show off the shoulders/arms and your neck. (i looked at you profile....) low sandal heels with a single strap (whatever color your dress is) and go for a big hat (i LOVE hats)...one of those vintage huge ones that are plain but big...dont forget tiny jewelry and big sunglasses in your purse...as far as the purse goes, take a clutch...red if your wearing black and black if your wearing white. if your wearing a white dress than beige/gold.

eandz · 11/06/2008 19:25

shoes should match either the color of your jewelry or the color of your purse.
