Diffuser for curly hair recommendations

I air dry in the summer but as my hair takes so long to dry, I blow dry in winter. I use an old tresemme hairdryer with diffuser but feel it's too hot for curly hair.

Hair is wavy to curly and prone to frizz. Hair can go either way I.e.on a good day, defined loose curls but on a bad day its just straggly and bird nesty.

Any recommendations? Budget is low so don't even mention anything over £60 (unless it literally changed your life and attracted admirers from far and wide).

I've got my eye on the Bellissima Diffon, currently on sale on Amazon, £40. Anyone used it?

I'd suggest waiting until after Christmas for all the unwanted gifts to appear on Vinted.

My Parlux was genuinely lifechanging, I had no idea hairdryers could be so different.

I have the curlsmith defrizzion and it was game changing for me. It's outside your budget but maybe you can get one in the sales or post christmas vinted/Ebay clear out.

Is this game changing compared to other diffusers, or no diffuser? Ie is it that much better than other ones you've used?

Way better than other diffusers!

Ive tried other diffusers over the years but never really got on with them. Seemed to leave my hair frizzy and no curl definition. So I just left my hair to air dry. But having started walking more I wanted to be able to dry my hair in winter and saw this recommended on instagram (pretty sure it was hanzcurls but could haven been franellishairstylist - both are worth following if you want curly hair recommendations).

I also have the curlsmith define hair styling brush which is great with either diffuser or air drying - pairing the brush with a cheaper diffuser could work on a budget.

Brilliant, thank you. Like you I've not got on with diffusers before so this sounds good.

Parlux, they do different diffusers for different dryers and also hair types. We have a couple, one with really long bits for drying long hair/more of a corkscrew effect.

AGreenWitch · 21/12/2025 08:24

This one for really gentle curls.

We have another one too, like the first one with shorter prong things.

Of course you need a Parlux dryer. ETA, that's three not two 😅, curly household here.

I would not get the Bellissima diffuser it takes forever to dry your hair. When I had it my hair was about thin length and it took half an hour to dry.

I also have the Curlsmith and it's more expensive but worth every penny. I can dry my hair in 10 minutes with it, my hair is collarbone length and very thick.

Thanks for recommendations, a couple of clear favourites so far.

I'm not so fussed on how long it takes to dry hair - it's probably a good sign if it takes longer. I never really dry my hair until its completely dry, I just like to take the curse off it.

I have a Dyson, bought in the sales last summer, which doesn't fall within your budget. I wouldn't say it's life changing (the cup of the diffuser is actually a little shallow if you have lots of thick hair). Before that I had a shark which was good but kept over heating & cutting out - clearly an issue with it as one went back under guarantee & the other did the same after about 18 months.
Sorry, not helping you other than to say steer clear of a Shark.

So sounds like any parlux model will do, it's the diffuser bit that works the magic?
