So, given all the tops in the shops are long, what tops go with knee length skirts?

I am confused. I have a really nice pink skirt from next (picture on my profile) but don't have anything to wear with it because all the tops in the shops seem to be long.

So what do I do?

a shirt might be okay, or a vest... something with a pattern as it is plain? but fitted, not too baggy.

is there a picture of a model wearing the skirt online/ in the catalogue? might give you inspiration for what to look for...

No, there isn't which is a bit annoying. it was a bit of an impulse buy and it looks really nice. Its just that I am on the short side so really need fitted tops but everything in the shops seems to be long and smock like.

I'm wearing vest tops with knee length skirts - think they need to be fitted really or it looks too 'bag lady'. Especially when you're small (i'm only 5ft) with enormous boobs as breastfeeding.

I got some nice ones in kew and the white company.

do the buttons on the waist poke out? if so then a shorter top is best that just skims the top of the skirt, maybe a fitted vest with either an open blouse or one of those short cardigan things (forget the name). you can get the long tops that have a tighter bottom part that menas yoiu can wrinkle up the top per say iykwim?

GColdtimer · 10/06/2008 21:15

I am 5ft too tracey, but without the boobs! Will try white stuff.

I was wearing a vest top with my knee-length skirt today

Def a fitted t-shirt or top to give you some shape

I do think it is a bit of a problem atm - very few nice/interesting tops to wear with skirts. I am a skirt wearer also. I have a few little blouses with short sleeves and maybe some embroidery type stuff on, or vests (but don't really like them for work). I don't like crew neck t-shirts because I have big shoulders and they make me look butch but they might work for you.

bozza · 11/06/2008 09:23

If you go for a blouse/shirt I think you want one that nips in at the waist if possible.

There are a few fitted cute short sleeved blouses in Zara, the kind with little puff sleeves and a self tie belt. But the skirt does look quite casual, and maybe these would be too dressy. You can't go wrong with a vest top and I agree with bethoo about the buttons and getting top that skims the top of the skirt.
