Fair Isle Cardigans post Christmas?

NameChangedDueToEmbarassment · 15/12/2025 15:54

I love this jumper, but would it be odd to wear this after Christmas?

There's nothing even vaguely Christmassy about that. Have you posted the right link?

Just what I was going to say.

Agree, but weirdly I was wearing something sort of similar last week (grey but that kind of pattern) and a colleague commented on my very Christmassy jumper? 🤔 Maybe it was OP!

OK :) That answers my question then, as to me Fair Isle pretty much equates to Christmas ! I just couldn't justify spending that much on a jumper to wear it only once a year!

No, not me!

@NameChangedDueToEmbarassment oh no Fairisle is def not just for Xmas for me! I wear mine with pride from Autum through to spring! I love the pattern and have a fe a few in different muted colours and styles ☺️

Doggymummar · 15/12/2025 16:30

I have several and wear them all year round

FourFiveEightNine · 15/12/2025 16:30

My Fair Isle knitwear has to be practically wrenched from me in July! 😂

Fifiesta · 15/12/2025 16:43

No, this is a lovely cheerful fair isle design for the whole winter. Perfect antidote for dark short days, and cold challenging weather.

Starryskiestonight · 15/12/2025 17:07

Jeeze £135 and mostly made of plastic! Cannot understand companies expecting people to pay that for a jumper which would have been 100% wool 10 years ago. We’re all being had!

Yes, price of decent knitwear I.e. wool has gone through the roof recently.
I’d try somewhere like House of Bruar for better quality at same or lower price. Will last for ever!

ilovesushi · 15/12/2025 18:09

I have never associated fairisle with Christmas. I'd not pay that price for a nylon/ wool/ cotton mix though.

Betsylee · 15/12/2025 18:40

I think it's lovely, not Christmas at all. Will look good in the spring too, beautiful colours.

tilypu · 15/12/2025 18:46

a) it's not Christmassy.
b) despite the name, it's not Fair Isle. According to them it's their 'playful take' on fair isle. But it's nothing like true fair isle knitting.

But it is pretty, and you could definitely wear that any time.*

*Well, maybe not the middle of summer unless you actually went to fair isle or somewhere similarly north..

AppropriateAdult · 15/12/2025 18:48

That’s a spring jumper if anything! It’s lovely, OP.

sonjadog · 15/12/2025 18:51

I think it will be nice for the early spring. I like the colours. I am quite tempted too...

JoyeuxNarwhal · 15/12/2025 18:56

Unless it's got a gigantic Santa or baby Jesus on the back then I think that would be fine autumn/winter/spring time.

Celestialmoods · 15/12/2025 18:57

I think almost like you about fair isle in that it’s a Christmas thing. But I also think New year is perfect for fair aisle when it’s too late for proper Christmas jumpers and would wear it until mid January. After that seems wrong. I don’t know why.

inamarina · 15/12/2025 18:59

It’s lovely and I agree with others, it’s not christmassy.
I’ve seen similar style knits from a Scandinavian brand, as part of their summer collection. Now that seemed a bit odd - to me at least!

Aluna · 15/12/2025 19:24

I really dislike Christmas knitwear so the fact it hasn’t got baubles on it is a plus.

If you like it then buy it, it has pretty colours, it will look nice going into spring.

KittyFinlay · 15/12/2025 19:44

I wouldn't wear this at Christmas because it's not remotely Christmassy.

I agree, there is something quite spring-like and to me it isn't a classic sort of fair isle vibe.

For me fair isle takes you basically from autumn (shiitting season kind to time) through to spring, and only really comes out through Christmas if it has scandi Christmas sorts of colours, or perhaps a bit of sparkle.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 15/12/2025 20:52

Ive got a few fair isle jumpers, I'm always complimented on my Christmas jumpers at work...i don't wear them at work anymore

NameChangedDueToEmbarassment · 15/12/2025 21:16

Thanks so much everyone ! I’m glad to see that I wouldn’t be considered strange for wearing this after Christmas ! Also thanks for the pointers on better quality knitwear, I do like this colour but if I can find something similar in 100% wool , I would definitely prefer that.. ❤️
