Questions for experienced ear piercers

I had my ear lobes pierced when I was 15ish. I followed the instructions to the letter but I think they kept closing up and everytime I changed ear rings I had to sort of make a new hole at the back.
I havent worn ear rings in over 20 years but regularly have to squeeze the gunk out of the holes. So the holes are still visible although I doubt I could put an earring in. They are wonky.
I quite fancy getting my helix pierced and/or the lobes redone. I'd only wear studs really.
But would the existing holes make the lobes more difficult?
Would my experience suggest my body would reject more piercings too?
Would more holes just look stupid next to closed up holes?

It's not a big deal if I do it and it doesnt work out but it's a waste of money and I dont really want more useless holes in my ears that fill up with gunk!

I’m not an experienced trained piercer but I did a Caflon ear piercing course (with a gun) when I did my level 3 hairdressing course. I thought the training was too brief and I’ve never offered the service to anyone.

However, I’m wondering if you originally had your ears pierced with a gun or a needle? I think it can make quite a difference.

I took my DS to have his ears pierced when he was 16 and we went to a well known tattoo place that uses needles for piercing in our nearest city. I was very impressed with all the hygiene precautions they took and how the guy marked the front and back of the lobes to ensure the piercings were perfectly straight and did it with DS lying down on the couch rather than sat upright.

They’ve healed beautifully.

If you have a reputable tattoo place nearby that offers piercings, it might be worth making some enquiries there?

It was a gun in a random jewellers by someone who probably had about 30min training 🤣 My mum (and me) didnt know better then.

I would definately get it done by needle now. There are a couple of specialist places. At least one of which has a whole hygiene room set up.

Find a good piercer and discuss with them. My seconds had closed from my teenage years and I had them redone last year and they are fab. Don’t notice the old ones and the professional jewellery used by this professional piercer is fabulous.
