This beautiful blanket … will it matter if I don’t “finish” drying in a tumble drier?

Evening S and B ladies … wondering if your experience of caring for Beautiful Things may be of help …

I received some cash for my 50th birthday and at first thought I’d get some jewellery. But then remembered I forget to wear the lovely bits I already have. But I still want something beautiful that won’t age, go out of fashion and be used often and remind me of the lovely folks who gave me the £.

I saw this earlier in the week - I love the sentiment and symbolism and the fact it’s uk made and from a good female founded little business.

So reason for my post - washing instructions are

Our blankets are made from recycled brushed cotton. For best results, wash in gentle 30 degree wash and line dry. Once dry put in tumble dryer at low heat to fluff up the fabric
Our blankets will still dry nicely without a tumble dryer. Line drying will keep them in good condition, though the fabric may be slightly less fluffy, and not have the same look that it currently does.

We don’t have a tumble drier 🙁 do you think it will take that much difference? I can’t see I’ll need to wash too often.

Thank you x

Feminist Cross Stitch Inspired Blanket

Inspired by Victorian cross-stitch samplers—once a quiet record of girls’ labour and learning, we’ve reimagined that tradition through a feminist lens. Woven into each blanket are motifs and stitched-in slogans that reclaim that history:Do No Harm. Tak...

I have a couple of good quality brushed cotton blankets that we have used for many years, so they have been washed and line-dried many times. They drape well and retain their shape, but the soft pile has definitely matted and they no longer feel as luxuriously soft as before.

Mine are plain. If the pattern on the ones you’re looking at is printed, not woven, then I think it will lose its definition if the blanket is not tumble dried.

Anything appeal to you?

I’ve had partial success with towels by ‘fluffing’ them while still wet - not as good at part tumble drying but they dry less crunchy.

With a bath towel I have used a silicon brush to raise the pile while still damp.

Your blanket doesn’t look like it has much of a pile, so you may find just sweeping the surface with your palm helps. I’d be very loath to use anything else unless it has extremely soft bristles.

I’ve also found fast drying (ie in a very warm room, seems to make things feel crispier.

I love the feminist blanket, I hope it lasts you years and years.

Thanks everyone … think I’m going to go for it and I have a couple of friends (one of whom gave me some of the cash as a gift) with driers. Hopefully if I don’t need to wash often and try to be strategic about when I do (so when I can air dry outside for the day) worse case scenario I’m sure she’d pop it in her drier.

Thanhs again folks for your replies 🙂
