How to make the new bath more comfortable for a soak?

Cockahoophappy · 12/12/2025 07:44

The new bath looks lovely, really stylish, but…

on the odd occasion I’d like to have a luxurious relaxing soak, it’s uncomfortable to be in any manner of relaxing, reclining position.

I have looked on line for solutions but reviews are very mixed so I would like to use my ‘ask the mumsnet audience’ lifeline please. 😀

TIA

What’s the issue — too deep, too shallow, the angle of incline not right?

Mwwoman · 12/12/2025 07:47

Reviews of what? Bath pillows? I’m unclear what you’re asking.

Checknotmymate · 12/12/2025 07:49

Fill it with baby seaturtles

jeaux90 · 12/12/2025 08:41

As a short woman I often find baths too long so I can’t soak without getting my hair wet so I do know what you mean but…what is the actual issue?

Nofksleft2give · 12/12/2025 08:44

Many stylish "tubs" have a straight back so you can only really sit upright. Style over function. They are very eye catching but not comfortable.

BuffaloCauliflower · 12/12/2025 08:49

Not very helpful I know, but did you not lie down in it when you were choose a bath? Surely this is the first thing you do. I think your only option is a different bath.

Cockahoophappy · 12/12/2025 09:12

Thank you for all your replies.

The man in the shop even said to me “make sure it’s comfortable” and I thought I did.
I accept full responsibility for the fact that I have been a numpty and made a costly mistake.

I am not sure changing the bath now is an option because of tiling, flooring etc.

So I’m looking for recommendations for something suitable to go in a bath to keep me in a comfortable reclining position.

What is it about the bath that makes the reclining position uncomfortable?

HollyChristmas · 12/12/2025 09:18

Our bath was a £1700 mistake . For me being a shorty it's too long and like others say too straight to be relaxing . I've not used it in a year and now shower only , and dh has never used it .

Spookyspaghetti · 12/12/2025 09:38

Do you have a pic or a link?

When we moved into our house I researched our new bath on MN as it is incredibly uncomfortable and is too big to fill to a decent level in an economical manner. Turns out MN hate it too, it’s an L shape. It’s a shame because previous owners had clearly put a lot of effort into referbing.

Cockahoophappy · 12/12/2025 12:49

This was it in the showroom

Same hear Holly. Luckily we do have another (old) bath in the house that’s comfortable but I had high hopes for this bathroom being a bit of a sanctuary, especially on cold winter nights.

I’ve screwed up, in a very expensive way 😔

But what exactly is the issue, @Cockahoophappy — is it that you’re too short for it? Or the ‘incline’ is too upright?

Cockahoophappy · 12/12/2025 18:21

Hi madturkey

The back of the bath, that I want to recline against, is too high and too upright.

I'm pretty sure you can get bath pillows and even bath rests (for mobility more often) that might help?

santasbaubles · 12/12/2025 18:54

I’d get a waterproof bath pillow that you can put in the small of your back to lean back, plus maybe a thick towel over the top edge.

Ineffable23 · 12/12/2025 20:20

I don't own one, but what about something like this?

Then try what @santasbaubles suggests. And next time, try out the bath before buying! I clambered into ours, in my socks, in the window of an upmarket bathroom showroom (having checked with bemused staff) — it’s too expensive a purchase to get wrong!

I saw someone on a TV series using this today and thought IWOOT. Our bath is massive and I can't get comfortable.

jeaux90 · 13/12/2025 10:13

OP ok so you need a bath pillow to make your recline more shallow. If your feet are still not in a position to brace yourself then you need a bath block at the end or one of those suction bars you can place at the end which will also shorten it. I feel your pain I really do. We just bought a new bath, my partner is a giant and I’m tiny so I’m going to have to do the same!

justasking111 · 13/12/2025 10:54

We inherited a D Bath which is massive. Takes 20 minutes to half fill and then you can't relax in it. The bath pillow looks good.
