Slickback bun help

Want to be able to do a nice neat slickback low bun for work but don’t know what product to use or how to use it! My hair is long and straight but I tend to get a lot of flyaways and bumps when I pull my hair back. I’m sure some sort of styling product will help but need recommendations for something that isn’t expensive but won’t make my hair look greasy or crusty!

Good old fashioned cheapo gel works well on mine. Water spray to help comb into the slick back then smooth the gel over to keep it that way

Living proof air dry styler is the best and smells amazing! You don’t get that crunchy feeling after you take it out and your hair feels better for it

Ballet dancers do this all the time so you'll find lots of tutorials online if you want them. Here's what works for me: Damp hair, bog standard hair gel, stop your centre part slightly forward of your crown and comb the hair backwards from there. Put in pony (not super tight) and use a fine tooth comb and some gel to make it smooth down the sides/back of your head. When you're happy with the sides/back, you can go and redo the pony more firmly. Then do bun. When finished bun, spray all over the head with hairspray while using the back straight edge of your comb to smooth down over the sides and back of your head. Once you get the hang of it you can make it mirror smooth.

How does anybody ever manage to do a bun? I've got one of those donut thing but have never succeeded yet. I've tried tutorials but again, can't do it. It's a complete mystery.

The Tigi wax stick is great for flyaways. I also find a bristle brush good for smoothing it all down.

Aloe Vera gel. Dancers use it and it doesn't go all crunchy and is good for your hair.
