Roman brand clothes

I've been getting loads of ads in my Facebook feed for this brand, and I really like a lot of their stuff

If you're familiar with this clothing brand, what age range do you think it's suitable for?

I'm just worried about coming across as "mutton dressed as lamb"

I have a stunning jumpsuit that always draws compliments when I wear it.

I would say 70+. Everytime someone mentions Roman on here, I go and take a look and I just don't get the love for it. And I say this as someone who spends most of her time in joggers and fleece!

Ridiculous!

OneRealOchreHiker · 08/12/2025 22:15

I’ve bought a few things from them lately. Online options is definitely younger than the instore ones. Fits well, stretchy and doesn’t need ironing.

Noodledoodledoo · 08/12/2025 22:21

My whole work wardrobe is pretty much from Roman. I have lots of their maxi dresses (with pockets) in different colours, work so well for me. Trousers are a bit hit and miss so only tend to go for the wide legged style the fitted ones are not cut for me.

BeastAngelMadwoman · 08/12/2025 23:41

I'm in my 30s and have a few button through dresses from there that I love! I wouldn't disregard everything from there at all

Bayroot1 · 08/12/2025 23:54

They're for anyone 30+ I'd say. Definitely not just older.

Also if you do try Vinted be wary of size stated. Can say 16 to 18 and be a 12. They've changed their sizing for some bizarre reason? I avoid now.
I'm a 14 uk but can't find stuff on there now. It's a minefield.

Banaghergirl · 09/12/2025 00:17

I buy loads of stuff from Roman. You can return items if you don't want them, you just drop them off at the post office and Roman deduct £3 for postage from your refund. However, if you want an exchange for a different size it's free to return. They are great for tall people as lots of their tops are longline and I've found everything to wash well and be of good quality. I've recently bought a wedding outfit from them, pyjamas, a couple of casual tops and a gorgeous coat in the sale.

Banaghergirl · 09/12/2025 00:18

Apologies, forgot to mention I'm 57.

ChubbyFecker · 09/12/2025 00:30

I will never buy from Roman again. Their customer service in the concession near me is appalling and I still haven't received a refund for something I didn't buy!

Sesma · 09/12/2025 04:41

If you have a Next account its probably best to buy from there, though I have bought from Amazon as long as it says free returns, I wouldn't buy from Roman website

Keepoffmyartichokes · 09/12/2025 07:09

I am 45 and have a knitted dress from there which I wear with chunky boots, it assists l always gets compliments. I have a maxi dress and a wrap over summer dress in burnt orange I wore for the races. They have some lovely stuff and don't stuff I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. They seem to have a lot of sales, I haven't paid full price for any of my dresses.

RacingAcrossTheSofa · 09/12/2025 07:16

I’ve worn the odd bit from there since I was in my 30s. They do smart cardigans - heavy fabric that hangs nicely and is somewhere between a cardigan and a jacket - which I’ve always found useful for work.

Have you got a John Lewis anywhere near you? If so book yourself a stylist appointment! They’re free, they don’t have a hard sell, and someone else will always put you in clothes you hadn’t thought of.

coolcahuna · 09/12/2025 07:22

They are definitely worth a look, I have a lovely maxi dress from there in a jersey material. I do agree the website makes it look better than the shop but there are some gems

Motnight · 09/12/2025 07:22

There is the odd gem in amongst their stock. In the summer they had a few cotton skirts very similar to Weird Fish for half the price.

Terrytheweasel · 09/12/2025 07:27

EBay is much better than Vinted. Try brands like Hobbs and M&S. Just check that the seller offers returns, don’t buy if they don’t.

Also, how about charity shops if you’re still losing weight. The ones near me are full of great quality clothing.

It’s fine, nearly all sellers have updates their listings, you do need to click on it to see actual size, but most it’s now both in the description and or a pic of the label, it literally takes two seconds more.

blobby10 · 09/12/2025 08:33

I have had a couple of things from Roman and was pleasantly surprised how good they looked once on. There was a tunic length dress (unlined) which looked awful on the hanger but once on it looked fab. If they had a store nearer to me and i had some money I would get more from them. I've always thought Bon Marche was for old ladies tbh and I'm nearly 60! However I find that a lot of brands like Roman, BM, Damart (yes I was surprised they don't just sell thermals these days). and loads of others who I would have classed as typical catalogue shops do actually have some nice stuff. Wouldn't use any of them exclusively but its worth not dismissing them.

Nope looked again last night out of curiosity. Lots didn't have the right size or label and vinted have marked as bigger. You can tell looking they're smaller.

They do accept returns for refunds, I just did one, no problem at all.

I recently bought a black jacket, I like longline jackets and they were one of the very few places I could find that sells them. It looks smart, although it's all manmade fibre. They also do clothes in plus sizes which is good if you're fat( I am).

I'm in my sixties and would say that it's a middle aged and older sort of shop.

I saw a picture of the Director of the Royal Horticultural Society in my latest members' magazine and she was wearing the white version of the Roman black jacket I recently bought, and I thought if it's good enough for her..

That's very odd. They refused 2 of my returns and said they only allow returns if faulty or the size I need isnt available. I wonder what's going on there? It was on their paperwork too.

No idea, but it wasn't a problem for me, they just deducted £3 for p&p.
It's all over their website that they refund unworn returns.
