What are you wearing on the icy slippery pavements

Just wondering what I can wear trainer or boot that will be grippy enough. Most of my footwear(trainers) is never good enough and this morning I have come out and nearly fallen over, I know if trainers are smooth or just have lines on this is not going to help.
There are so many ‘snow boots’ on sale, and although it’s an obvious choice for the cold, I do wonder how good they are, having had some in the past.

Thanks

Yak Trax or similar... Spikes that slip over boots.

I'm Swedish and we have icy pavements/roads for half the year. A lot of people here wear Icebugs. They are not the most stylish looking but really good in those conditions.

This. There are lots of different types. However I've found that the expensive ones dont last any longer than the cheap ones (and my kids lose them) so I just get a few cheap pairs each year.
The spike ones are more comfortable than the ones with sort of springs on them though.

Any form of footwear with deep treads should be reasonably effective on ice, but it is better to avoid ice where possible, and salt the path where appropriate.

I'm at an age now where the thought of walking on ice/snow makes me sweat with fear of falling! So I stay indoors and look out at it 😊

If I have no alternative, I use my snowboots and believe it or not, the walking poles I used years ago on the Camino. The poles are brilliant for balance, although I know some might find them ridiculous looking. I don't care!

Definitely Yak trax

I've found the slipover spikes work when there's snow everywhere but not on un-iced pavements. So once the thaw starts and you're left with invisible patches of ice for days (and sometimes weeks) on end, they're pretty useless. If any can recommend some that work in all conditions then I'd be very grateful. Otherwise I stick to my Dr Martens or my 40 year-old wellies that still have amazingly ridged soles.

I've also contemplated buying a stick because, like soocool I'm quite fearful now of slipping and hearing something crack as I hit the ground
