My nephew. His mother tells me he doesn't want anything for Christmas but needs clothes. She's suggested a polo shirt.

He's not especially fashion concious but always looks "smart".

Is there a brand you'd suggest that could make this a slightly more exciting present for him?

Ralph Lauren!

TTC1x · 04/12/2025 08:53

Ralph or Gant!

Makingpeace · 04/12/2025 08:54

I'd get a voucher.

Depending on budget, you could go RL or Luke, Tommy Hilfiger, Fred Perry, Ben Sherman

M&M Direct or TK Maxx usually have all of the above brands at reasonable prices or a shopping centre voucher is a good idea as he can choose which shops and clothes he buys x

My 20 year old picked some from Uniqlo, smart but no logos, he doesn’t like logos!

BlessedAreThePureOfHeart · 04/12/2025 09:15

I would say Ralph Lauren Fred Perry and Lacoste are the classics

SC1989 · 04/12/2025 09:39

I’d say get money or a voucher. If voucher, quite a generic one that includes lots of different shops.

Bookpage · 04/12/2025 09:56

The point is he doesn't enjoy shopping for clothes, so money or a voucher isn’t what's needed.

A couple of my son’s friends love polo shirts. Top brands for them would be Ralph Lauren (safest option), Fred Perry, Tommy Hilfigher or if you’ve got a high budget, Moncler.

luckylavender · 04/12/2025 10:38

I’d add North Face to that list

ScoutOfTheSoftHeartsClub · 04/12/2025 11:04

Even if he’s not interested in clothes you might be wise to check that he will accept new clothes. A significant proportion of young adults now make a thing of only buying pre-owned.

PizzaPowder · 04/12/2025 11:07

Can't ever go wrong with a classic Ralph.

Linenpickle · 04/12/2025 11:13

Give them a gift receipt in case they want to change it.

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 04/12/2025 11:16

What's the budget? I agree with PP that you can't go wrong with Ralph Lauren but they are expensive.

A cheaper option would be a Fred Perry. They have come back around since the 90s!

Wow I totally misread the title of this discussion...
I thought you were saying "If I were to buy a 19-year-old polo shirt..."
And I thought, "oh boy, here's someone like me!
They bought something years ago that they really loved the design / the style / The fit/the fabric/the color whatever, and now they're hoping to find a replacement for it..."
(A lot of my clothes are I guess you could call them vintage)
But no. You wanted assistance in buying a 19-year-old a new polo shirt. Sorry. Can't help you with that one.
