Westcott313 · 04/12/2025 00:41

I've bought this and love the soft wool.

Does anyone have it and is it good quality? Hush coat

I got it on chocolate too and can't decide which one I like more!

That’s very nice!

Assuming the reviews (which you’ve presumably read) are genuine they all seem positive.

The price seems relatively modest for double faced wool, so I would assume it’s quite lightweight? One of the reviews said it would be good for spring and autumn - so it probably wouldn’t be the warmest coat in one’s wardrobe.

I’m not generally a fan of that insta-beige colour, but in this instance the oatmeal shows the fabric and stitching to better advantage. And while I went out in a brown Prince of Wales tweed coat yesterday, (winter weight, from the men’s department of Toast last year) I’m beginning to feel I’ve seen enough brown, and probably won’t buy any/much more of the colour going forward. But obviously, choose whichever goes best with your existing wardrobe. Or whichever looks best in your mirror.

It looks very nice. I prefer the brown to the oatmeal although admittedly I wear a lot of brown anyway.

I have 2 practical / warmth concerns:
There appears to be only one button.
It’s also unlined which means it’s likely to lose its shape.

Edit: I’ve just googled and the AI summary says double faced wool doesn’t need lining so maybe I’m wrong there although I’m still a bit sceptical. Also are you sure the wool feels soft enough not to need lining?

Floisme · 04/12/2025 12:32

Oh dear I hope my negativity hasn't killed the thread. I really do like the look of it!

ScoutOfTheSoftHeartsClub · 04/12/2025 12:38

I haven’t found double faced things lose their shape. But as with any wool, if it’s too thin it will hold on to crumples. You can test that easily by scrunching some of the fabric in your fist - if it recovers immediately it’s fine.

WinterBerry40 · 04/12/2025 12:41

Maybe I'm wrong , but I wouldn't be wanting to send to the drycleaners every 6 weeks or so and for that reason never buy a light coloured coat .

Westcott313 · 04/12/2025 19:37

Thanks for the replies!
I'm tempted to keep the brown. Haven't done the crumple test.

I also ordered this wool blend coat from Mango but it's 55% wool so am not sure if it'll be warm. I get hot easily so wanted pure wool.

Oh gosh now seen this Cos coat. Can't decide!

I'd go with the Hush coat as its 100% wool. I have a double faced wool coat from Joseph and it doesn't lose it's shape and is warm.

Interesting … So, this Cos double faced coat:

https://www.cos.com/en-gb/women/womenswear/coatsjackets/coats/product/oversized-double-faced-wool-coat-navy-1258271001

is 100% wool, and therefore a proper comparison with the Hush coat. But all the other full length ‘wool’ coats I’ve looked at on the Cos site seem to be a mix of wool and tencel or some other fibre. They seem to be acknowledging that they can’t make a pure wool double faced coat at a price they think customers would accept.

Really depends what sort of fabric you’re most comfortable with. Pure wool is water resistant but really not very nice if you’re caught in a heavy downpour. A mixed fabric might be easier in rain, but again, it might crumple easily, which always looks shabby.

I guess you just have to try them all on and see which you like best!

Thanks!

Decisions decisions. I have a Cos down coat for really cold weather, a Seasalt Janelle for rain so can't imagine wearing a wool coat in the rain...

I'll have a mooch in Cos next time I'm in town. I'm still leaning towards the brown Hush.. 🤔🤔🤔

I have had my eye on this coat for about a yr. I have a few hush coats. I got the meridah coat instead in Jan as that's cashmere and wool (and other bits )- lots of compliments but not as warm as I would like. Will probably buy this one early next year although i don't need it!

Cantonet · 06/12/2025 12:09

I think the 100% coat will wear better & be warmer.
I really like double faced wool as it drapes well & isn't as heavy weight as a lined coat.
I have that Mango coat & I love the shape & style but after a few wears it's showing permanent creases & some worn areas that my 100% wool coats don't.

Westcott313 · 06/12/2025 12:46

Thanks I kept the brown Hush one. Its lush!
